Posts from ShortGrub in thread „Any (American) football fans here?“

Old Joe has always been one of my favorite coaches as I've never read of a breath of scandal about his team or any of its' players. His character is on a par with that of the Duke, a trait that is rare in big-time college football.

The school did have it's issues about 11 years ago when they had losing seasons for about 3 years. They thought Joe Pa has lost the ability to coach. Little did they known.
He let a few players play who had gotten into trouble. It changed the face of the team and took about 3 good recruiting classes to get the bad attitude out of them.
Since then they have been playing Joe Pa football as usual.

That Penn St- Ohio St game was good. Pryor who turned down Penn St had extra insentive to play well. He did and so did both teams. Low scoring, knuckle dragging game.
Texas and Tech should be a good game. Leach has beaten Brown when Brown coached UNC, but that was years ago.

Anyone see the BAMA game. The NCAA and the SEC clearly want Bama to remain undefeated. Not that UTenn had much to say about it, but 0 penalties Bama, 6 Utenn in 1st half was robbery.
Like you 12pak I yelled too much so I turned the game off. The cats were hiding and the wife had enough.
I be thinkin UTenn be getting a new coach soon.

The Dawgs played good, Duke over Vandy, Gators spanked the cats.

Finally they are talking about sending the UTenn coach packing. The Alumni donations down millions, the old saying money talks..right.

If Bowden is out at Clemson, Fulmer must know the clock is ticking. No Georgia win to bail him out this year, and Bama just is too good to lose to UTenn.

So Tbone, any UTenn fan knows the line, 'wait until next year'.

I visited UT at Austin in 1999. My Wife's family is in Fredericksburg and we drove all over while we visited. Loved San Antonio.

Most schools have the braggarts. Tennessee, Georgia, Bama all do I know I met many from there. When I saw UTenn at Syracuse this old Syracuse alum said to me you are a cocky SOB. He had just said to me with 1:34 seconds left and Syracuse winning that we would lose, I said I had been to many games and they had not lost one yet. We won with less than .20 left.

Penn State is about as bad as any place. One of their alums didn't like that UTenn beat them one year and while I was off from work stole my 75th anniversary UTenn cup for spite.

Does anyone else think we need a playoff system in college ball?

Absolutely. The lesser conferences who never play the quality of teams may still have a team capable of winning it all. If they play enough good teams the lesser team will be weeded out of the mix. The old saying the creme will rise to the top.
The teams like USC for example only play a few tought games so their players are less beat up by bowl time. The SEC teams by then have thoroughly beat the crap out of each other and limp into the bowl season.

There are more players in the NFL from the SEC than any other conference. Must be something to the quality of players on those teams.

Tennessee needs to send that QB back to where he came from. The 3rd ranked QB 3 years ago coming out of HS. Number 4 must have been a real winner. All they needed was one first down and they had Auburn beat.
The alumni are calling for Fulmer's job, that's millions in alumni money that will not make it to the school. The AD listens to the $$$ when it's millions.
Stephens hopefully will be the QB this week.

And should I bring up the hoops from the last few years. How did the Lady Sooners do compared to the Lady Vols.

Once again, all is right with the world.:teeth_smile::teeth_smile:

Bama has played Georgia, who has the Sooners played that is any good to be ranked number 1?
SEC always is the best conference, but they have a habit of beating up on each other which only helps the weaker conferences, Pac-10, Big-12, Big-10, ACC.

The Vikings need a QB. Childress needs to call his buddy Reid up and get AJ Feeley from the Eagles. He knows how to run Childress's offense right, 6-2 as a starter when Childress was O-Coordinator.

My NFC team is the Eagles and AFC team the Colts. Football is best watched if it's college players playing because anyone can win on any given day. Only if the NFL coaches let players loose like college coaches but then it's about the money.
We know Duke's line in the Quiet Man about money.:omg2:

This gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "defensive struggle".

During my 60 plus years of following football, I've never before heard of a game with a score like this - one field goal and one safety. Amazing!

It looks like the score card from their last baseball meeting, not football. If Mississippi St could score points with Crooms defense they would be very dangerous.
