Posts from Hondo Duke Lane in thread „Any (American) football fans here?“

What do you mean, you don't Mondays, GT? I'm off this week and will be leaving for Miami Wednesday, and so I'll be off all this week. As the game, well, no plans; just watching the game. I might be here just posting during the game.

    Cheers  Hondo

You know, if it wasn't for the defense (Patriots), I don't think they would have won that game. It was the defense that held the Chargers to 4 field goals, and they were in the red zone all four times. That is a sign of a great defense. The Chargers only held them to three scores. Very interesting game. I think that if the Giants have a chance to beat the Patriots, then they will have to have the long run or long pass to score on them. The weather will be a lot better for both teams as well. That may play into the Patriots favor.

    Cheers

    . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Looks like I'm rooting for the Packers next week.

    Hey Jay,

Are you an anti-Manning fan? I happen to like both the Packers and the Giants. But it looks like it's going to be tough to beat the Patriots. And I am not counting out the Chargers, but I can't see them get through NE and the cold temps with a victory. I saw that the forecast in Green Bay is at kickoff around 11F. Not sure about any precipitation. Haven't heard the forecast in NE.

I have no vested interest in this game, my team lost, so I don't really care, but like to see the Patriots loose, just because I am tired of hearing how they are dominating the game. And the over rated Brady.

    Cheers

A day of snow and cold turned into the next day of upsets. Interesting matchup next weekend with the patriots/chargers and giants/packers going to the deep freeze. Might see snow games again next weekend. Looks very good for a packers/patriots super bowl, but don't count out the chargers and giants.

    Cheers

DID YOU SEE THE NFL GAMES TODAY!!!!!!!

Now that is the way to play football. In the snow and in the cold. It was exciting to see the playoffs today, and seeing the Packers playing the Seahawks reminds me that football was meant to be played. The game was exciting and I know a blowout. And the Patriots and the Jaguars in the nightcap was a better game. That was a pretty good game until the end.

Tomorrow will be good too. Looks like the wild cards are not going to the championship.

    Cheers

My Titans lost today, but that's alright. I didn't expect too much, and I have to say that they had a pretty good season and hopefully will build on that. So go Chargers as they play the Colts. And the Giants won to get to play the Cowboys. The other games next week is the Seahawks playing the Packers, and the Steelers playing the Patriots. Should be a great weekend of football.

    Cheers

The NFL playoffs are going on. Just watched the conclusion of the Pittsburgh/Jacksonville game. Down to the wire with a Jaguars victory 31-29. And Seattle going to the next round from the afternoon in an easier game. Didn't see that one.

    Cheers  Hondo

It's true they haven't done well in their bowl games for the past 3 or 4 years but they've won far more bowl games than they've lost. Not only that but even during the past 3 or 4 years, they've managed to get to a BCS bowl, which I think pays about 17 million to both the winning and losing teams. So Stoops is at least making the university money, even losing the games.

Ture, very true. I must admit that your right about both. Someday, it might bit him though. Not a bad payday.

Tell me, stumpy, does the Big 12 get the money to distrubite to all the schools? They do in the SEC.

    Cheers

What's really ironic is that two of Bob Stoops (OU head coach) former assistants, who are now head coaches at Kansas and Texas Tech, won their bowl games while Stoops lost his. In fact, Coach Leach at Texas Tech was one of only two coaches to beat Stoops during the regular season.

Oh well, there's always next year.

I'm not saying that OU is not a good or even great team, but I can't figure why they are not able to play in the bowl game. Maybe it's the time between the regular season and the bowl game. It is basically a month between time, which is a big complaint to me. But everyone has that issue as well. As a matter of fact, I don't think we see the best football because of such a long break. It's like having to recondition yourself for the beginning of the season. You see the common mistakes you see at the beginning of the season to get adjusted to the team.

Oh well, just venting out my complaint with the system we have in college football.

    Cheers

Now that was a good game last night with Kansas and Virginia Tech, 24-21. The SEC is 6-2, so that's pretty good and the big game is Monday for the National Championship. I am for LSU for that National Championship just because of the SEC, and I am not a fan of Ohio State and the Big 10. How are they doing in the bowl record?

The NFL starts tomorrow. Titans all the way or at least this weekend against San Diego. And I am pulling for the Redskins agains Seattle. Long shots for the two, but I am an underdog fan (not the movie or cartoon).

    Cheers

The Rose Bowl has a lock with the Pac 10 and the Big 10. There was talk of a Ga/USC match up but the Rose Bowl didn't want it. So we got, well, you know the rest of the story.

The Sugar Bowl isn't much better. The SEC has a lock for one spot with any other opponent. Like the Orange Bowl having The Big 12. Unitl they unlock their Bowls we'll have these sorry matchups. No offense to Hawaii, they deserve to play in the BCS. But we know they don't play anyone, so that says a lot.

Looks like a great matchup in the Orange Bowl right now. Virginia Tech just scored on a punt return on Knasas and the score in the 3rd Quarter is 17-14 Kansas.

    Cheers  Hondo

Congratulations gt for the great game. The Dawgs are unstoppable. A good way to tell people that you are going after the national championship.

It looked too easy big guy.

And what about that West Virginia game. What's going on with Oklahoma? They can't win a bowl. That's 4 in a row.

    Cheers

What a way to end a year!!!! The Tigers won a squeaker and beat the Tigers 23-20 overtime in Atlanta. Just to clerify, that is the Auburn Tigers beating the Clemson Tigers. And the Titans winning Sunday, but that was a boring game and looked as if the Colts gave it away. But it does get them to the playoffs.

Oh, did I tell you that the SEC is (4-0) so far, so you guys today keep the streak going (Tennessee, Arkansas, Florida and Georgia).

    SEC Rules!

    Cheers

Caught most of the game, and thought it was going to the Giants. I watched some of the Penn State/A&M game as well. And forgot to catch the rest of the pro game. Of course I am very interested in the Titans/Colts game tonight. If the Titans win, they go to the playoffs. So, root for the Titans.

Oh, did I tell you that I am pulling for the Buffaloes tonight?

    Cheers

LSU???? AUGH! I would have LOVED to have gotten a shot at those guys. I just wonder what would have happened if the No. 1 and 2 team had lost in the middle of the season and my Dawgs were #4 then.

Anyway, I never would have thought that I would have been disappointed in a Sugar Bowl appearance. It is what it is and for what it's worth, BRING IT ON HAWAII!!!!!!!!

I guess you know how I felt back in 2004, and we were undefeated. I know how you feel as well. We went to the Sugar Bowl as well, and victorious in our game. I'm pulling for you. Maybe you can be #1 by some mysterious way.

    Cheers

As the NFL gets ready for the playoffs in a couple of weeks, looks like New England is unstoppable, but that seems to be true when teams are undefeated in the past except for the Dolphins in 1972. They loose early in the playoffs and the unexpected seems to happen. I'm still thinking that the Colts will repeat. We'll see. I'm still for the Titans.

As for college, I guess I'm for LSU.

    Cheers

CanNOT believe what I just saw tonight. No's 1 and 2 got beat tonight!!!!! Ohio State will be in the championship game, but will my DAWGS????? I would LOVE to get a shot at OSU!!!!!!

I can't believe that your dawgs missed out on the championship. That is a bummer, but you can at least say that you are going to play the only undefeated team in the nation in the Sugar Bowl. I am sure that you will beat them, but who knows. This has been a very weird season. And my Tigers are going the Atlanta to play Clemson on New Year's Eve. I'll at least don't have to get up too early on New Year's morning to watch them play as I have over the past couple of years.

Sorry about that stupid rankings, but I've been there too in 2004, and we were undefeated.

    Cheers
