Funny, minutes after this shot with Denver Pyle next to Duke, Denver gets killed from the explosion on the ROOF of Travis headquarters-the gambler sure got around!

"Smitty sings Here's to the Ladies at the party and Jocko and Blind Nell dance.
Jethro sings the Green Leaves of Summer the night before the attack. That's why he is carrying his guitar when Bowie frees him."

I think both the above situations occur in the "Spirit of the Alamo" TV special, which was filmed before the final battle scenes.

I completely agree, Duke's version is the best for me. Since most of the movie goers probably didn't know all the facts at that time, Duke went for entertainment, and to try to inspire people with the basic story. I think he succeeded.

There IS a complete director's cut master copy, but it is not in good condition and is in the process of being restored. Unfortunately, the last I heard, the funds needed are not there.

That scene of tthe fight on Travis' HQ steps was shot, but was not in any of the released versions-not even the director's cut. As far as can be told, only the couple stills exist. It would be incredible if all the filmed, but unused footage, could be found and inserted into a "special edition" release.

Absolutely love Duke's version of the battle. Sure it's all Hollywood with a capital "H", but it's still an incredible film. You can see his heart in every scene. He made it HIS way, and even if he didn't make money off of it, he was always proud of it. I truly hope one of the deals goes thru for Alamo Village where the buyer is intending to restore the Alamo to how it was in the film. The facade and the Village have had so many changes over the years, it barely matches the film now.
