I was very sorry to hear that science-fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke passed away Wednesday in Sri Lanka, where he had lived for many years. He worked with Stanley Kubrick in adapting his story "2001"
He was the first to forward the idea of communications satellites (in the 1940s) and used to joke that he should have patented the idea and made millions. As it was, he was well-off from all the books he had written.
He will be missed.
