McQueen practiced with his weapon until his hands bled just to achieve that natural familiarity that you see on the screen. Mel Gibson once commented that McQueen was the master of any prop but didn't imention all the hard work that went into that dexterity.
As an aside, Magnificent Seven costar Brad Dexter was also in one episode.
