My son, Christopher, is an avid reader. I remembered a book I read when I was about his age, 14, and we checked it out of the library.
Trustee from the Toolroom, by Nevil Shute, is the book. We plan on reading it together, so, it should be fun.
Well, we even got the Mrs. in on the reading, so we are reading aloud, round robin, and enjoying the story. We're almost halfway through the book, and I must say I'm enjoying it even more this time around because of the family involvement. Also, I recently received Sarah Palin's book, Going Rogue, which is also proving to be some good reading!

I found a real gem at a used book sale today . . . 100 Years, 100 Stories by George Burns. As you might imagine, it's got some pretty funny stories. You gotta love used books sales - I got a $15.95 book for $2! The proceeds from the sale were to benefit a local charity, and was being run by a local Cub Scout pack.

While it's true that most Southerners wish we'd won the Civil War, it was not to be, Stonewall or no Stonewall. The North just had too much manpower, money, manufacturing capacity, railroads and every other advantage needed for waging war. And after Lincoln found his Patton (Grant), it was just a matter of time.
So, hopefully, you've been building up your manpower, money, manufacturing capacity, railroads and every other advantage needed for waging war, since then? It may be needed.

Another book I'm currently reading is "How to Survive The End of The World as We Know it" by James Wesley Rawles. This is another book that can have a depressing or positive perspective, depending upon how you look at it.

I was just wondering if any of our friends from 'across the pond' have read this book, or others by the same author? He is a Brit, and also wrote On the Beach, a rather popular book.Chester

Funny - I used to kinda enjoy watching Oscar night when Bob Hope was the Master of Ceremonies. But anymore, I don't go to the movies because I think about 98% of 'em are garbage and the Academy Awards have become a circus dedicated, for the most part, to left-wing politics and those crappy movies.
I'm beginning to think I must have really been born in Texas, not California, like my birth certificate sez.

I was able to finally finish The Good Guy by Dean Koontz. Very suspenseful . . . once I really got into it, I had trouble putting it down.

Odd Thomas by Dean Koontz was the last book I read.
Now that baseball season is here and the last few weeks of school, I don't expect to get to read for pleasure again until summer.
