Harry comes across to me as a person who doesn't take himself, or his position, too seriously. Unlike his father who, in my humble opinion, is an egotistical, narcissistic A-S-S.

thanks for all the nice words, wife came home today, little emma is still in hospital as she had a problem with drinking the bottle.she's getting much better i expect her home either thursday or friday.she was 3 weeks early.thanks again:wink_smile:

Give your darling daughter a kiss and tell her that all her Yank cousins send their love and best wishes for a long and very happy life.

Our land is about 6 miles south of us on the outskirts of an even smaller town called Elgin, MN. So our kids will not be changing schools and we don't have to have big moving trucks or anything as drastic as that.

We used to live in Rochester but we wanted to raise our kids in a small town and you get more of a house for alot less once you move out of the Rochester, MN vicinity.

Good for you and the missus, Todd. Even better for the youngsters.

Today, I am cleaning out my computer room. We are getting ready to start selling our house. So we are trying to make our house look like it has more room in it by cleaning out stuff.

In case you are wondering, this is a planned sell. We bought some land awhile ago and we are looking to build a house. Tough economic times be damed, it has been our plan for quite awhile so we are moving forward with it. This is not fun either!!

Are ya gonna move out into the boonies, Todd? Is your land still located in or around Plainview, or elsewhere in Minnesota?

Something that has always puzzled me - how did an employee of Big Blue land in a small community like Plainview?

I went today and renewed my driver's license, which expires 5 January.

I was worried about passing the eye test as my vision has deteriorated markedly due to cataracts I've developed over the past couple of years. I think the examiner gave me a break on the vision test. She had me repeat the numbers a couple of times but after the second time she said okay without commenting on my obvious missed calls, took my picture and issued me a temporary license until DPS sends me a permanent (or rather an extended) license good for 5 years. Whew - close call.

I can still see fairly well for a distance but my close-up vision is getting pretty chancy.

Two or three months ago I went for my annual eye exam and the doctor said my cataracts hadn't gotten much worse than last year but that he would schedule me for cataract surgery if I wanted it. At first I thought about going ahead and having it done but changed my mind after hearing the cost, which would be around 7 thou for both eyes.

Medicare (substitute taxpayers for Medicare) would pay almost all the costs but I figure I only have a few more years left anyway and didn't want to saddle the taxpayers with that expense. Also, during the pre-op exam, they show you a video which kinda explains the process and it said that although it's a very rare occurrence, sometimes people lose their vision completely after the operation. I thought to myself "why take the chance".

Anyway, that license renewal was my biggest event that took place today.

I just got my e-mail situated and able to return back here. I've been out for a week trying to set up my new computer from Dell and get all my stuff in. This is just as bad as moving. Glad to be back.

By the way, this is nice with Windows 7, 23" widescreen HD monitor, and loads of memory.

    Cheers  Hondo Duke Lane

I've got a new Dell with Windows 7 ordered. 6 gigs of RAM and 500 gig HD.
I didn't order a new monitor though as I have a 22-incher that's only a couple of years old and they usually outlast the PCs themselves by a few years.

Well it's a bit cold and I am about to ride my bycycle to the bus loop where it waits while I go to work and then return. We sell thousands of pointsettias at this time of year and evergreens of many kinds for Seasonal decorations. Lights are up and the house is set except for the tree. hard time to be on a diet but I will try to be good. Santas watching you know. take care and have a nice Holliday if you get one.

Hi Murray, I'm curious - is everyone in western Canada rich? The reason I wonder is that yesterday, just for the heck of it, I was browsing real estate prices in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver and discovered that asking prices for 1600 square feet condos or bungalows were 400 thousand and up.

Reminded me of housing prices in California (before the bust).

I will if I add all three marriages together.

    Mark

I must confess that I'm kind of old-fashioned about marriage - the wife and I will celebrate our 50th next year (provided we live that long). I give all the credit for this to my wife, who's definitely a keeper (and who has probably the warmest, most loving and forgiving personality of anyone I've ever met. She even forgave a brief affair I had at about our 8th year of marriage.)

When we got married in November 1960, I was one of the world's worst sexists (thanks to my old grandpappy as a role model). But over the years I've mellowed and learned to heed my wife's opinions. I figured it was either me changing or I'd lose my wife and I sure didn't want to do that.

IMO, the pols have made it entirely too easy to divorce nowadays. This is not intended as criticism of you, Mark, but some people change spouses like they change their clothes. (And BTW, my mother was one of 'em - she was married four times; twice to my father.)

Been a few weeks in British Columbia and Alberta, and some more ahead. Driving oil miners´roads and exploring the surrounding bush. It´s called work too.

I figure you folks way up north in Finland are accustomed to the kind of weather shown in your picture. However, I notice you're holding a good old cup of hot coffee. (or maybe hot chocolate).
