    Jim and Sue -
Thank you for the kind thoughts. It's good to know fine folks as you are thinking about me. I am on the mend, moving around better (my physical therapist, Penny, thinks I'm coming around very well); I'm continuing to use a walker, but fudge occasionally. I should be walking very well in a month or two!

You know, our friend used a walker for a period of time. I had almost forgotten that until you mentioned using one yourself. Just do what the doctors tell you to do, and I'm sure you will be doing a jig shortly!

just thought that i would share this with you all, last night the not so little bloke and his team the Springfiels Brumbies (basketball) play in the finals and won they were down in the first quarter then they clawed their way back and tied 14-14 in the second quarter, the other team got ahead and we fought our way back to a 20-20 finish in the third quarter, this caused the other team to loose heart and our boys went all out and won the game 30-26. the team that lost has been on the top of the ladder all season with only 1 lose and that was to us they thought that they would walk all over our boys but that didnt happen im so glad that our boys never lost heart and kept on plugging away like the little brumbies they are.

he is playing for both the under 14s and under 16s next season hope he does ok

Congratulations to you, and of course your not-so-little-anymore bloke! How exciting!! Our youngest grandson (about the same age your son was when we all started out here) is on the Little All-Star team in the 8-year old group. They've won two of three games so far!

Have the day off from work but will be working at our new house. Only about 2 weeks left before our closing and then we begin the long process of moving in..............

Todd, we're so glad to hear that your 'project' is progressing! We wish you the best!

having a good day at home went out for lunch with all the family

That wouldn't have been a little birthday gathering, now would it?? :cake:

    recuperating from hip replacement surgery!!!

We're enjoying reading a post from you, Jay! Glad you're back, and we pray for a speedy, complete recovery. Stick with the physical therapy and be diligent with the exercises, and you'll be in great shape (we had a friend who broke his hip last year, and he did his exercises religiously, and now you'd never know he could hardly walk a few months ago).

Well, I hardly enjoyed it . . . but I discovered that our turtle tank was down about 3-4 gallons (it's only holds 10 gallons) overnight. He obviously hadn't drunk the water, and I discovered the filter was backed up and was overflowing over the side. It was nasty, but I was thankful the tank itself wasn't leaking. So now Kirby, our red-eared slider, has a nice new clean tank with new water after two hours of work. Once I finished that I moved on to the 25 gallon gold fish tank, which had also gotten pretty nasty. That only took about an hour and a half.

But they are much nicer to look at now.

Regarding the drivers license renewal, coincidentally I went down and renewed mine about a month ago. It went fairly smoothly. I also had to take care of some car registration fees, that had late fees, for a total of $250. This is a case where being friendly with the DMV ladies pays off.
After typing away furiously for a couple of minutes, she looked up at me and said, "That'll be $52, please." Wow, you can bet the old checkbook flew out of my pocket pretty doggone fast!

    Chester

am looking forward to the next few weeks as i am moving departments at work again i am off to work in the deli department and will have to learn lots of stuff before feb because the manager is off to get married, and to go with the change is another change in my roster getting more hours and the possibility of getting full time after 3 months hope i work out and i get it lol

    smokey,

We know you're a hard worker! Things are sure to go your way!

Regarding what I was doing today . . . well, I was especially well-fed today, being that it was my birthday. Started out with homemade biscuits and sausage gravy, lunch was more of those biscuits with some leftover turkey gravy, then dinner was roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, asparagus, and acorn squash stuffed with apples and walnuts, followed by German chocolate cake (baked by my 13-year old son). Top all that off with a viewing of one of my favorite JW movies, Sands of Iwo Jima, and it was a great day!

Today I ordered a new desktop PC from Dell with the Windows 7 OS. Supposed to have it by 30 Dec. I really didn't need it as I never have any problems with my Vista but Dell made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

Now that must have been some offer, if you didn't even need a computer! Let us know how you end up feeling about Windows 7 OS.

ZSMaverick, glad to hear your performance went so well! I'm sure I would have enjoyed it immensely. Congratulations!

didisha, happy to see you are having such a good day, all the way around the world from me. Have you had plenty of sunny days this summer?

    Chester :newyear:

Wow, etsija! It sounds like you are having a GREAT time (and quite exciting, too!).

Were you able to get any pictures of your 'visitors'?

How warm is it, 250 miles south of the Arctic Circle? (We hit about 90º F today, in our neck of the woods!)

Mark, I'm glad you had such wonderful birthday weekend!

My little "high" of the week was Wednesday evening. Our son is in the Majors division of Little League, and his team had lost quite a few games (they were often close games). They had a good practice Tuesday afternoon, and they had a REAL good game Wednesday evening. Even though our son's at-bats weren't particularly good, he did serve as a pinch runner in one inning and scored.

Then, much to my surprise, after our main pitcher finished pitching (he had reached his limit of 85 pitches), our son came in to pitch at the top of the 6th (last in Little League) inning. At that point, our team had a reasonably comfortable 11-6 lead (and the home field advantage), BUT our son hasn't pitched in a game in three years, since being in the farm division (unbeknownst to me, the coach has been having him practice pitching for the past couple of weeks)!

Anyway, I was understandably nervous, as a game can easily be lost due to poor pitching; I've seen it too many times. But the first pitch he threw was a strike! He looked so confident, he had really good form, and a beautiful side arm throw! I could hardly believe my eyes! At one point, the coach went and talked to him on the mound. All I could see was the coach's back; when he went back to the dugout, my son had a huge grin on his face. I wondered what the coach had said to him. By the end of his short stint, he pitched to 4 batters, for a total of 18 pitches. The first batter was put out at first. He put 3 runners on base, two of whom scored, before the coach replaced him. Despite all that, he looked real good. Anyway, the next pitcher faced three batters, but the needed outs were gotten, and we won the game!

We so needed that win! The kids had gotten kind of discouraged, but the win was a real shot in the arm, for all of us! I was so pumped after that - I felt almost giddy.

And . . . you might be wondering what it was that the coach said . . . as was I. Chris is known for telling jokes all the time (he's quite the entertainer), and the coach went out and asked him if he had any jokes he'd like to tell. Chris told him, "Not any short ones." The coach told him, "You owe me a joke. Oh, . . . and relax."

    So . . . yeah . . . I'm still enjoying that!

    P.S. Sorry for getting so long-winded . . .

Not having a Crystal ball I decided to guess that May 28th would be a good day to fly into the United States ( if they will have me ) and begin in that way, a 5 day exploration of Madison County. With that trip just weeks away now, I smile to think of the rest and interesting events to come. Whats is happening in your part of the world?

I just returned from several days away, working out of town. It is a very laid back day. Looking forward to seeing you in Winterset at the end of the month, Murray!

. . . we had to put our 12 year old Corgi to sleep... we will miss you Princess...

Sorry to hear the sad news for your family! Friends of ours had the same sad task this past week . . . :ohwell:

its the Mrs birthday today, she's hit the big one 40.

Ned, please wish your wife a most wonderful 40th birthday for us!!
