Posts from The Ringo Kid in thread „What are the latest movies you bought on DvD/Blu-Ray?“

    The Pacific.
    Six Discs, ten parts.
Got it for only forty dollars. A Blockbuster near me is going out of business.

I havent seen it yet but intend to sometime. I heard from the guys on the US Militaria Forums that it was OK--that Band of Brothers was way far better but the problem with this version--is its more long on wind and short on action.

Im not judging it till i see it though.

Oh and--oliver stone(head) is coming out with its version of American history soon -- which WILL be full of revisionist carp. I read about it on the Military . com site.

By ""chance"' I was at Wallace World this morning to get some eh hem--""Cleaning Supplies"" and I happened by eh hem--""chance"' slip by their DvDs area-and saw for real--by chance--a 4 movies Western Collection that TCM put out for sale. It has: She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, Cheyenne Autumn, Wagon Master and Three Godfathers as the set. I didnt buy it for She Wore a Yellow Ribbon--but for Wagon master. I never cared much for Cheyenne Autumn and I already have Three Godfathers--a movie I love--but I cant stand She Wore a Yellow Ribbon--and this is the ONLY reason I have the movie. Also, of the ""Cav Trilogy"" Ribbon is my least fave--but I love Rio Grande and Fort Apache.

Thank you Arthur. Then this also means that the George Sanders movie as well as the Knights of the Round Table--both I have--are then of King Richard 1st. Im kinda getting into movies taking place in those times.

Thank you Arthur ;-)) and If I recall? to also kinda keep this on track? I THINK King Richard and the Crusades (movie) is about Richard the 3rd?? This one has George Sanders as the King--but if so? then Sanders was way too old to play him--even though I think he did an excellent job doing so. Ill watch that again by the week end and see though.

Hi Arthur--if you see this to reply--a former Colonialist needs an answer to; I always thought that King Richard the 3rd--was a good guy? but all I seen in the news about him--was that he was a bad Apple. What's the scoop on this guy?

Impulse buy today from Wally World: Pathfinders: In the Company of Strangers. All of the cast is unkn to me as ive never heard of any of them before? but--since this movie deals with the Pathfinders who were in the 82nd Airborne Division--looked good enough to spend a Sawbuck on. I wish they would make a movie about Sergeant Jake McNiece (SP?) who is the leader of a group of Pathfinders who were in the Screaming Eagles (101st Airborne Division for those who know not much of such things and are from Loma Linda California  ))

    DvD:

whip wilson was not to bad as a cowboy he's watchable, would you let me no was the tim holt westerns are like.iv'e seen the two billy the kid westerns with mack brown and taylor.in my opinion mack brown one is better than taylor's one.the horse riding close ups are as phoney looking.

Thanks for the rundown on the Whip Wilson movies. Its going to be a couple of months before i can get the Tim Holt Westerns but--from all that ive seen him in (Stagecoach as well as Treasure of the Sierra Madre) I think his Westerns will be worth it. now id be a sight happier if some studios would get around to releasing a lot of Wild Bill Elliott Westerns ;-))

Thanks also for the opinions on both Billy the Kid movies. Ive only seen part of Taylors version and that was probably about 30 years ago and I dont remember it. He looks way too old for the part :lol: Looking forward to the Mack Brown version. Ive been eying both for a few months now but never dived into either because War movies were more important at the time. :-)) Now im doing only Westerns, Pirates, Napoleanic Wars, Colonial and Knights stuff--maybe a few Service and Comedies thrown in ;-))

i watched 3 of the whip wilson westerns and there very good.good story and the picture and sound are excellent.i will also order vol 3 and 4

Not sure if ive ever seen any Whip Wilson movies but will soon as I get past the Johnny Mack Brown movies. Ill also be ordering vols 3-4 as well as the Tim Holt Westerns volumes. Oh and speaking of Johnny Mack Brown, im about to order his version of Billy Tthe Kid as well as the Robert Taylor version of Billy the Kid. ;-))

Just watched: Gun Law Justice with Jimmy Wakely and Outlaw Gold w/ Johnny Mack Brown. Both were very well made and interesting Westerns.

    Gun Law Justice:

    Outlaw Gold:

Not enough images of either movie on the net so il ad an "outlaw" of my own:

I always loved Jane Russell, and thought she deserved much more than she got:

just arrived is monogram cowboy collection vol 2.i ordered it from amazon.com be4 christmas but got lost in the post so i reordered it on amazon .co.uk and it arrived yesterday.
    just ordered vol 1 today.
also bought moonraker to complete my james bond collection.just waiting for skyfall to be released.also ordered 11 charles starrett westerns should have them in a week are so,and columbo season 3

I think you will like the Monogram Westerns, I just watched a 4th one from Vol 1 today which is a Jimmy Wakely Western. I havent seen any from Vol 2 yet and am planning to get vol 3-4 sometime as well as the Tim Holt volumes.

Moonraker was the first Bond movie I got to see at the theaters and Sir Moore and Sir Connery both are my favorites. I watched both on TV many years when their movies played and I have no clue who the first one was that I saw--so both are equal as James Bond.

Charles Starett is another "B" Western Star I like a lot as well as William "Wild Bill" Elliott.

The Ringo Kid-$3 a good deal.

I just ordered "Fort Apache" and "Battle of the Bulge" from Amazon for $4.99
    each in BluRay..

That sounds like good prices for a format I cant afford to collect ;-))

Oh and, just remembered the title to that $3 buck DvD: Treasure of the Sierra Madre and i got it because its a 2-disc set. I have the movie but will be giving it away to a friend. That one is one of my top favorite Bogie movies topped only by: Sahara and They Drive By Night.
