Posts from WaynamoJim in thread „What are the latest movies you bought on DvD/Blu-Ray?“

Earlier this week I bought the Ultimate Gangster Collection- Classic in Blu-ray. There's four movies, Little Caesar, The Petrified Forest, The Public Enemy, and White Heat. They also have a second collection that has five modern gangster movies in blu-ray, Mean Streets, The Departed, Heat, The Untouchables, and Goodfellas.

Bought a couple of Blu-rays today. Bought Cleopatra, which just came out in that format. Pu ti on for a few minutes to see the pq and it is dazzling. Liz Taylor never looked better or more delicious. Also bought the Clint Eastwood, Man With No Name Trilogy. took a sneak peek at For A Few Dollars More and Good, Bad, And The Ugly and the pq is good. It's seems to be better on the latter than it is on the former. Got them both at Best Buy, $16.99 for Cleopatra and $19.99 for the Eastwood set, which they normally seel for about $50.

Best Buy has all the Star Trek video stuff on sale, with the new movie coming out in a couple of weeks. I bought both the original Star Trek movie set and the Star Trek: The Next Generation movie set, both in Blu-ray. Paid $34.99 for the originals and $24.99 for the Next Generation ones. Was watching one last night, Star Trek: The Motion Picture and they advertised the original series from the 60's being available on Blu-ray. From what they showed, they look just fabulous on BD. And you have a choice of watching each episode in it's original form or in an enhanced form, in which some special effects are added. Both ways look great. Looks like a brand new series.

The other day, bought the BBC production, Planet Earth, on Blu-ray. I remember seeing it a few years back on Discovery HD Theater and thought it was outstanding. This is the whole series, not a condensed version. It has 9 hrs for the series and another 7 hrs of bonus material. Originally sold for $70, got it on sale for $27 at Best Buy.

Bought the Blu-ray versions of the tv show, The Big Bang Theory, seasons 1 through 4. Best Buy has them for $20 each. Seasons 1 & 2 have both the Blu-ray, DVD, and Ultraviolet digital download on them. Season 3 & 4 are just the BD's. We got to watching it on tv and found it to be quite funny, especially Jim Parsons as Sheldon Cooper.

Last week I bought The Hobbit and Zero Dark Thirty. This week I bought Lincoln. All were the Blu-ray versions. Also last week, Best Buy had a number of movies on Blu-ray for a buy one get one free deal. So I picked up Lawrence Of Arabia and Close Encounters Of The Third Kind. They were priced at $9.99 each, but with their deal, they were $9.99 total. So, averaged out to about $5 each.

Ok, I'm going to put this here, but if someone wants to movie it to a better spot, fine.

    The Fighting Seabees- April 23

    The Great Escape- May 7
    Viva Zapata- May 7

    Cleopatra- May 21
Gangster Classics( White Heat, The Petrified Forest, Little Caesar, The Public Enemy- May 21

    Shane- June 4
    Midway- June 4

Today, bought The Life Of Pi and Cirque de Soleil: Worlds Away. Watched the Cirque de Soleil movie and it was pretty good. Pretty much no dialogue, but it does tell a story and provides a visual treat in seeing these people do some of their stunts, which make you wonder how they do it. Would've been better seeing on the big screen in theaters but it was still good.

Bought two new Blu-rays today. First, bought Schindlers List. Released today on BD, but since I'm watching hockey right now, haven't had a chance to see it. Second, bought the new version of Red Dawn. I've heard pro and con about this one, but it stars Chris Hemsworth who played Thor and who like, also Josh Hutcherson, who's made a name for himself in movies like Zathura, Journey To The Center Of The Earth, and it's sequel, Journey 2: Mysterious Island. Might be a terrible movie, but they filmed it in my part of the world, Detroit.

I did see it on the big screen and I thought it was pretty good. I liked the fact they did a little exploring of where Bond came from.

Last week, bought the Bond movie, You Only Live Twice and also, Taken 2 with Liam Neeson. I don't think that one got very good reviews but, I liked the first one and thought, why not. I'll watch it the first chance I get. By the way, these are the Blu-ray editions.

Also, didn't The Quiet Man come out this week on Blu-ray? I stopped into Best Buy this morning to pick it up and there was no sign of it anywhere. Either they sold it out or they didn't bother to carry it. Didn't feel like asking, so I left. I check another time. A few weeks ago, when Von Ryans Express came out on Blu-ray, they didn't get it in till about 2 weeks later.

Tuesday I bought Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Dog Days. It's the 3rd film of the series based on the series of books by Jeff Kinney. The movies are all pretty decent light hearted family movies. My wife and I enjoy them as does our 10 yr old grandson, who has also read all the books including the latest one.

Bought the Blu-ray version of The Amazing Spider Man. Thought it was a pretty darn good movie. Little different than the ones from a few years ago, but still well done.

About a week ago, bought the Blu-rays of Goldfinger and Thunderball. Both look stunning in the Blu-ray format. Gonna have to get more.
