We'll be starting up a JWMB Stock Company next!
Strange you should say that, I thought about that a few years back,
but I guess not many members would like to be profiled!!
Perhaps you'd like to be the first one?

I meant to post that in the John Wayne Stock Company, apologies for the mistake.
Ha, ha, too many Stock Companies around here all of a sudden!
Could an argument be made for John Dierkes? He was in The Alamo and then had a small uncredited part in The Comancheros which I know wasn't produced by Batjac http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0226109/?ref_=tt_cl_t14
He is not listed as part of the John Ford Stock Company,
and I can't place him any of the director's movies?
He would not be included as part of the
John Wayne Stock Company either,
as he only made one movie for Duke
With the addition of
Shug Fisher
the profiles of all actors of the
John Ford Stock Company
that appeared in Duke's movies,
is now complete.
More of the John Ford Stock Company,

Thank you Keith for this updating of John Ford's list and how many films and TV shows each were in. Have you done one for John Wayne's Stock Co. or are you planning to? You Ford list is awesome, thanks again - Jim
Do we have a thread for the "John Wayne Stock Company"? Since Duke used many friends over and over, it could make an interesting list.
Thanks both for mentioning this.
It is something I was considering after
completing the JFSC.
You have also probably noticed that the term
John Wayne Stock Company,
seems to be more regularly used.
Would like your feedback on this,
as my own thoughts would be to
consider all actors/stuntmen/ crew, used since
Duke formed John Wayne Productions/ Wayne-Fellows,
and ultimately Batjac.
Therefore the movies made by those companies,
as in these productions, Duke had ultimate control
as to the cast lists and crew etc.

Are there any of the John Ford stock company still alive?
From the one's we have profiled,
apart from Maureen and Patrick
Vera Miles is still around
I now have a copy of Bill Levy's Lest We Forget: The John Ford Stock Company. I think this is a book many JWMB members would enjoy, especially the bios on the lesser known names. Some of these people led really amazing lives off-screen! Thumbs up.
Thanks for this Paula.
On the top post you will also notice
we have profiled many of the Stock Company,
including many of the lesser known ones,
in
Pals Of The Saddle- Cowboys
and

New book now released
LEST WE FORGET: The John Ford Stock Company
Bill Levy (2013)
John Ford (1894-1973) directed scores of memorable movies that feature countless scenes that linger in one’s memory. He is the only director to have won four Best Director Academy Awards, for The Informer (1935), The Grapes of Wrath (1940), How Green Was My Valley (1941), and The Quiet Man (1952).
There have been many biographies and film studies of John Ford and his motion pictures. There has never been a single volume devoted to the stock company of actors and actresses who worked for him, some continually, many intermittently, from his silent westerns of the ‘teens to his final films of the 1960s. This book spotlights 112 members of Ford’s fluid repertory company and includes a mini-chapter on each member of the troupe.
And it was a diverse group. One wrote three books on the Baha’i Faith religion; another boxed the heavyweight champion of the world to a draw; one eloped with Loretta Young when she was seventeen; one participated in the Yukon gold rush; a photograph of one player’s ear is the clublogo for a professional wrestling association; another taught Lucy how to jitterbug; one was a legendary undercover agent for the OSS in France during World War II; another was a member of the advisory board to the Bank of America concerning loans to the studios; two were rodeo world champions.
All of them, from obscure bit players to barely-remembered character actors to legendary film stars, made substantial contributions to Ford’s movie legacy.
April, who runs the great directedbyjohnford.com website, has interviewed Levy

Yep. PW made eight films/TV episodes with Pappy, so that qualifies him, no question.
Also, Maureen is a member as well, even though others have more appearances, her roles were in some of the most iconic films of their (and all) time.
Hi Russ,
Yes Maureen is included, her 5 films.
Just look for the gals names in red.
I believe Pat's first appearance in a Ford film was as a kid in Rio Grande, probably 8 0r 9 at the time. I wouldn't consider him part of the stock company.
Yes it was, and he was 11.
However many believe he was the baby in
Stagecoach
As for the Ford Stock Company, I would personally consider Pat Wayne as a full-fledged member, as he worked with JF since he was about 10 until Ford's death.
I would also consider Maureen O'Hara one as well, considering the number of films she made with JF, even without Duke.
Indeed he was,

QuoteJust announced: New book about the John Ford Stock Company
April Lane of directedbyJohnFord.com has posted news of a forthcoming book by Bill Levy, author of John Ford: A Bio-Bibliography. The title of Mr. Levy's new book is The John Ford Stock Company, and it will be published by Bear Manor Media some time this year. Naturally, I look forward very much to reading this, especially the chapter on Ben.
With thanks to Paula, from her Ben Johnson's screencaps site

Membership in the John Ford Stock Company
did not necessitate membership in Ford's social circle,
and indeed many of the actors in the Stock Company
never encountered Ford outside of work situations.
