I have Circusworld recorded from TV on DVD and to be honest despite some obvious print wear I wouldnt be in a rush to buy a proper DVD of it unless it was very reasonably priced and was a cleaned up or enhanced print.

I taped mine onto DVD from TV and then made by own cover for neat CD Case. I am more than happy with this without buying DVD. See it in 10 years well maybe 5!!

Watching Circus World/Magnificent Showman tonight I must admit that I had low expectations and was checking the DVD print out that I had taped.
Film is at best fair and worst poor. Good points are that Duke is virtually in every scene. Bad points are lousy script and poor performance particularly Claudia Cardinale (cheap Bridget Bardot) and Rita Hayworth who were annoying and gave sloppy poor performances.
I have seen more tedious movies but it is a contender. You would watch it once
and then put it away for about 10 years.
Print was very faded. Crowd scenes look like black & white at one point I wondered where they actually back projection. Bronston movies tended to be thrown together i.e get a number of stars and a general idea for a movie and run with it. Would Capra have saved it ? Somehow I doubt it.
Out of curiousity does anyone have the DVD release and is the print any better? I dont think I would buy the DVD the one I made will suffice fo once every ten year viewings.

I agree a multi region DVD player can be bought for around £20.00 now
When you consider that most DVDs after they have been released for awhile can be bought officially for around a £5.00 a dodgy bootleg does not have much appeal.

The problem with Far East DVDs is that at some point there is always pixel breakdown.
Stagecoach is the only film that compared favourably with official release.

Yes, it is a truly awful movie that is a chore to watch. Also, remember Duke nearly got burnt to death with his dedication to the fire scene in the big top because nobody bothered to tell him that it was a wrap.
According to Alissa this aggrevated his lung condition for the course of the movie thereafter.
