    P.S. The first link (to the Booth Museum) is correct but sometimes it takes a long time to load. If you'd rather just go to the Booth Museum site, that is at http://www.boothmuseum.org/


    Then click on "exhibitions."


    Click on "online catalog" on the lefthand menu.


    Click on "search."


    Type "Harry Jackson" (include the quotation marks) into the search engine box and click on search


    It will take a moment to search but then the second item that comes up is the John Wayne sculpture. Click on the link. When the page comes up, you can click on the picture to get an even bigger version.


    Looking at it again, it's Rooster but not the "fill your hand" scene as JW has the reins in one hand (not his teeth) and his rifle in the other...

    I hope this is the right place to start this thread about depictions of John Wayne in paintings and sculpture.


    Yesterday my husband and I visited the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, GA, a magnificent collection of paintings and sculpture depicting the Western experience. (They also have a gallery devoted to Civil War themed paintings and sculpture, and for some reason a Presidential Gallery with portraits of and letters written by all the presidents of the United States.)


    The museum's collection includes a stunning sculpture by Harry Jackson of John Wayne as Rooster Cogburn making his famous "Fill your hands" charge from True Grit. You can see a photograph of it here at the museum's website:

    It's a nice photo but doesn't really show how amazing this piece is in real life. So if you have a chance, go to Cartersville, GA to see this sculpture -- but also to enjoy the rest of the museum's artworks. You can easily spend most of the day there!
