Posts from SXViper in thread „Duke's Movies- Blu-Ray/DVD Releases“

Here is another JW DVD release that some people might be interested in, more for the documentaries instead of the movie(McLintock!), which most of us already have anyways.

Synergy Entertainment will be releasing John Wayne: Bigger Than Life on January 25th. The three-disc set includes the western comedy McLintock! (1963) and three documentaries: Bigger Than Life (1990), covering the legend's life and films; The American West of John Ford (1971), highlighting the career and western films of acclaimed director John Ford, including interviews with Wayne and other colleagues; and No Substitute for Victory (1970), hosted by Wayne, about the communist threat and its zenith in Vietnam. Extras are rare TV appearances by Wayne on Art Linkletter's People Are Funny (1958); The Colgate Comedy Hour (October 11, 1953); Wide Wide World (1958) in a segment called "The Western"; and The Lucy Show (1966), in which Wayne plays himself as Lucy (Lucille Ball) is sent to deliver some papers pertaining to the financing of one of his latest productions

Found some interesting info on some upcoming releases. The first part is new western's that MGM has coming out. The second part is a re-release of 2 Duke movies with some added commentary and extras that some might be interested in. THese were found on digitalbits.com :

MGM has announced three westerns and two war films for release on May 12th. It's a sign of the times, I guess; this is a substantial reduction in numbers from MGM spring western and war promotions of the past. Instead, the studio has also announced a number of repackagings of past releases in various multi-packs (such as a 3-disc Cowboy Collection and a 20-disc Ultimate Westerns Collection). As there are no new titles involved and no new transfers mentioned, I'm not reporting on them in detail here. As for the five new releases, they are The King and Four Queens (1956, with Clark Gable), Doc (1971, with Stacy Keach), Young Billy Young (1969, with Robert Mitchum), Time Limit (1957, with Richard Widmark), and North West Frontier (aka Flame Over India, 1959, with Lauren Bacall and Kenneth More). MGM will also release The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966, with Clint Eastwood) on Blu-ray on May 12th.

Paramount continues with Hawaii Five-O delivering the Sixth Season on April 21st. April 28th brings Mission Impossible: The Sixth Season. The studio is also adding to its Centennial Collection with May 19th releases of two John Wayne westerns - El Dorado (1967) and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962). Extras on the former will be audio commentary by filmmaker Peter Bogdanovich; Ride, Boldly Ride: The Journey to El Dorado; audio commentary with critic and film historian Richard Schickel featuring actor Ed Asner and author Todd McCarthy; The Artist and the American West (1967) - vintage featurette: Behind the Gates: AC Remembers John Wayne; original theatrical trailer; and galleries. Liberty Valance will offer The Size of Legends, The Soul of Myth featurettes; audio commentary by filmmaker Peter Bogdanovich along with his archival recordings with John Ford, John Wayne, and James Stewart; selected scene commentary with intro by Dan Ford along with his archival recordings with John Ford; galleries; and the original theatrical trailer.

Thank's Keith, I tried finding this thread but for some reason I couldn't it. Must of been the time of night that I was looking for it!!!

Mike, there was no mention of any other movie's that I could find at this time.

Just going over some of my movie website's that post info on upcoming DVD releases and I come across this that was posted by the guys over at The Digital Bits :

There are some rumors surfacing that MGM will release the complete director's cut of John Wayne's The Alamo (as previously available only on the special edition laserdisc) by mid-2009. This would be a delightful release for the film's devoted fans, so let's hope there's some truth to it, especially if a Blu-ray version is also in the works.

    Let's keep our finger's crossed!!!!

The only one on that list that I could think of really wanting that hadn't been "officially" released was Circus World. Not that its a great movie or anything but its another one of those that I remember watchign with my dad while growing up. Would be nice to throw it in once in awhile to reminisce.

I just picked up "Donovan's Reef" at our local Wal-Mart for $5. Can't beat that and its in the new packaging.

H.sanada, hope you get the new "official" releases soon. THATM is especially interesting with the 2 discs.

    Thanks for the update.

These DVD's came out last winter in the US with the updated packaging, they had been released before that as well. But they came out with the new packaging to coincide with the release of "The High and the Mighty, Hondo, Island in the Sky, and the official release of Mclintock.

Its nice to see they are coming out for the rest of the world to enjoy as well.
