However a series that is just good, clean wholesome fun
Casey Jones is an American children's Western series that ran during the 1957-1958 television season,
based around the pioneering western railroads. The series aired in syndication in the United States.
Casey Jones aired on the BBC in the United Kingdom and on the Nine Network in Australia.
Casey Jones is listed as a TV western,
but I guess it's a border line decision.
I have however profiled it, because if our members
were like me as kid, it would be a great favourite.
I just seemed to grow up with Alan Hale Jr.
seeming like a father figure, in his role as Casey.
Casey Jr. was played by Bobby Clark,
and the series also starred Eddy Waller and Dub Taylor
who popped up in some of Duke's movies

QuoteDisplay MoreI remember the first time that I saw Gilligan's Island
at the age of 14 and immediately flashed back to having seen Al Hale Jr.
about 7 years earlier in the Casey Jones TV series.
I like Hale in both, but given my propensity for railroad-related genre,
I give the sentimental vote to Hale for Casey Jones and the comedy vote
to Hale for Gilligan's Island. In any case, it would be great to see re-runs on cable,
probably best on TV Land but certainly would be appreciated on Nickelodeon.
Also would be good as part of a documentary on the wide variations
of 1950's TV westerns.
The other Casey Jones that I remember was the very excellent
Walt Disney color cartoon (about 15-20 minutes in length)
that was always paired with The Legend of Paul Bunyan and Johnny Appleseed,
on the Disneyland TV show

Plot Summary
The series was set in the late 19th Century featuring the adventures of
railroad engineer Casey Jones and the crew of the Cannonball Express
steam locomotive, fireman Wallie Sims and conductor Redrock Smith,
working for the Midwest and Central Railroad.
Casey lived in Midvale, a fictional town within commuting distance
of St. Louis, Missouri with his wife Alice, their young son Casey Jr
and their dog Cinders.
Although there really was a famous locomotive engineer
named Casey Jones, the TV series was only very loosely based on him.
However it did use the real names of his train,
the Cannonball Express, and his fireman, Wallie.
