Posts from Dooley in thread „Olive Films“

Damn that is truly amazing! I cannot wait to see all of these.
To date I've only watched the first 3 blu ray releases of the Mesquiteers series and all 3 were wonderful.
With all these other releases coming think and fast, I'll have to focus my film buying addiction purely on Olive films!

These releases are coming thick and fast! What with the Criterion 50% off sale and the Olive releases I know what you mean Paula about an aching wallet! Thanks for the updates as ever.

Thanks for update Paula. Wake of the red witch will be interesting. Still waiting to see what The Quiet man and the other olive JW blu rays are like. I haven't got mine yet!

Wow! A man betrayed!! That's one I've never seen.
Olive films are single handedly dominating all my blu ray purchases.
Mclintock is released here in on region B but I think I'll wait for the Olive release.

Sorry, I got confused in my not liking Lady for a Night.
The film I watched at Christmas was Lady takes a Chance, which I didn't enjoy, lol.
It transpires I've never seen Lady for a Night, so must watch it soon, before February!

Now you say next batch in january, Does there seem to be a pattern here? Are they releasing regularly every few months Dooley?

Hi Wtrayah, I've been off JWMB for a bit and totally missed this one!
Yes they do seem to be releasing at quite a rate, there are 3 more early Duke titles AND the Quiet Man all out in Jan and already Lady for a Night scheduled for Feb! Long may these releases continue!

    Olive Films comes through again!

They will release Lady for a Night on blu-ray and DVD on February 26. ;)

I really didn't enjoy this one when I watched it on DVD at Christmas. Not sure how much the rubbish quality had to do with it. I think I'll wait for a review of this one, got 4 other Duke titles on their way soon so that should keep me occupied.

Overland Stage Raiders on Olive blu ray.

Another cracking transfer and a nice little film.
I have rediscovered these since the blu rays and have enjoyed everyone.

Can't wait for the next batch of Duke releases from Olive films in Janary!

A discussion about The Quiet Man on blu-ray (and DVD) has been under discussion in the "Olive Films" thread since Oct. 29. The transfer from a 4k scan should look fantastic unless there is some big screwup.

    Let's hope not Paula.
So far Olive Films can do no wrong in my eyes, I've got most of their western blu rays and all have been at worst very good indeed!

Agreed, the DVD copies are dreadful!!
Really excited as all other Olive Films releases to date have been fantastic!

    Just a quick heads up.
The titles on deepdiscount are sub $15 and $18 on Amazon, Quiet Man is more.
It may be a long way off, mid Jan, but I've watched Quiet Man go up $5 already on Amazon so best order early! ;)

    Forgot to say, Thanks Paula!
As usual the most helpful person on here in fuelling my continual spending on films, lol!

Worth buying for the artwork alone!

Better get building a bigger shelf, Olive films will be rivalling Criterion for space at this rate.

The New Frontier is a hugely exciting prospect.

Along with The Quiet Man, Olive Films is also releasing Frontier Horizon (New Frontier), King of the Pecos, and The New Frontier on DVD and Blu-ray on January 22, 2013.

    Thanks for the updates!

All of these titles will be greatly appreciated as all of them are pretty poor on DVD.

Now if only Warner would remaster 3 Godfathers and She Wore a Yellow Ribbon for blu release. Can you all imagine how gorgeous those Technicolor beauties would be in blu-ray (if done right)?

She wore a Yellow Ribbon would be amazing indeed!

Thanks Paula, that's going on the list!
It's great news that so many of Duke's films are being remastered and released on blu ray.
The Quiet Man has looked well below par for so long I cannot wait to see it in all it's glory.

Pursued on Olive Films. Directed by Raoul Walsh, starring Robert Mitchum, Dean Jagger, Alan Hale and a small part for Harry Carey Jr.
Fantastic, unconventional Western, one of the best I've seen recently.
Olive Films remastering is as good as ever. Def worth checking out if you haven't seen it, IMHO!

hi dooley wouuld red river range be region free

I would imagine so! I tested The Night Riders on blu ray and that is region free so imagine it's the same. I'll test it just incase and post on here.

Red River Range finally arrived today.

As fantastic as The Night Riders on Blu Ray.
I have fallen in love with these anew. They are fantastic innocent little stories with some amazing horsemanship and Duke starting to really find himself. They are a joy to watch.

DVDs and blu rays are most often region coded, meaning you can only play them on machines in the regions they were released. This should get you up to speed. P
    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD_region_code

Region A Blu-ray - North America, South America, East Asia except for China

    Region B Blu-ray - Europe and Africa

Region C Blu-ray - China, Russia and other countries
