I've always liked this film very much.
Although I personally was born in east Texas (Palestine), I was raised in southern Oklahoma and all of my immediate ancestors, including my mom and dad, were born and raised in Oklahoma. So I've more or less considered myself an Okie all my life (especially during football season 
)
When I saw the movie, I was a GI stationed in Hawaii. For months after seeing it, the wife and I both hummed and sang much of the music comprising the score.
