Going back to Elmer Bernstein who passed away a couple of months ago, he also did the music for To Kill A Monkingbird, My Left Foot, Wild Wild West, The Gifters & The Black Cauldron. Incidently, To Kill A Monkingbird is my favorite movie and it has a lot to do with the music in that film.

In the John Wayne musical pieces these themes are from a title CD The Films of John Wayne, but I haven't been able to find anything on that in any catalogs. This is from the Utah Symphony Orchestra.
Great Music from a great composer.
You might go to composers of Duke movies, and find a greatest hits to get John Wayne compliation of songs or from studios. I've been looking myself for several years, but not lately.

Max Steiner composed the music for The Searchers. What a great musical score for that movie. I watched it the other day, and really enjoyed it very much. It was very appropriate, and made the mood for the movie great. I found out he composed the music for Operation Pacific and Trouble Along The Way, which I enjoyed as well. Any others that touched you in Duke movies?

Duke could not whistle, so someone did the whistling for Duke in The High & The Mighty. When you get to see the movie, you will see a silhouette of Duke almost everytime he whistles that tune.

John Williams did a lot of great music before he became world known from the scores of Star Wars. I didn't know how much he did for so many movies.

Elmere Bernstien did so many great compositions for so many movies. I really am moved to the movie To Kill A Monkingbird. When I hear Bernstein's music in Duke's movies, I listen with great enjoyment. The Comancheros, True Grit, The Sons of Katie Elder, just to name a few of his compositions.
I like Victor Young also. He did the music for The Quiet Man.

Music has a way of touching our emotions when we watch a moive. Some great composers have really made that special touch in Duke's movies. Victor Young has composed (8) eight movies, Roy Webb has (7) seven. Max Steiner did (3) three, Emil Newman did (3) three, Dimitri Tiomkin composed (6) six, just to name a few.
I have a collection of music from Elmer Bernstien (composed 
that has quite a selection from movies Duke starred in. I really liked the music from The Commancheros. The Sons from Katie Elder is also a good one. Maybe there is one that stands out to you.
I have to say that Hondo from Emil Newman gives me the chills, everytime I hear that theme music.
