The man worked in many film genres, but I think it's good he was staying away from Science Fiction. In the heyday of SF, the fifties, Wayne was again trying to get away from westerns, and if he would have wanted to, he could have had his try in SF. Imagine him for instance in the James Arness role in "Them!". Or in "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", alarming the US citizens about Communist infiltration, "they're here already!" -
