On the topic of its political correctness (or lack thereof), how come no one finds Gone with the Wind offensive? It certainly has slavery in it, but is widely available. How about The Littlest Rebel or The Little Colonel with Shirley Temple? Both have slaves as part of the story line, and I bought my copies at Costco a few years ago (I bet they're available on DVD by now). I thoroughly agree with your assessment of the movie, Stumpy, and am hard pressed to understand why they don't release it in the US.

Of course who can forget the classic of the classics, D.W. Griffith's, Birth of a Nation done back in 1915, and yes it would be a silent film, but made AFI's top 100 movies of all time. This movie tells about the beginning of the KKK :o after the Civil War!

That's a scary thought! To have this movie as an all-time favorite. It's available on DVD in the states.

    Stumpy,

You may be right but we can only hope. I try to be an optimist, and hope that Disney will get on the right track. But it seems that's been a very long time. If they ever find anyone as good as Bobby Discoll, they better hold on to him.

They'd be better off if they stop remaking some of Disney's classics, like The Parent Trap and Flubber (A remake of The Absent-Minded Professor).

    bkohatl.

I want to welcome you to the greatest message board in the world for a great person and actor, John Wayne.

Even though I was only 6 or 7 years old when he passed away, I enjoyed Treasure Island myself. I first heard of Driscoll on a phono album an LP of the Treasure Island on a Disney Album. I heard the voice of Driscoll and loved the story. I had a trill to see the movie as a child and loved that movie dearly. I can see the great talent of the young Bobby Driscoll and know that he was a great one.

I do have Treasure Island on DVD and have seen it 3 times since release. :)

I was not aware that he was in Song of the South. Though I've seen the movie also as a child, I haven't seen the movie in many years thanks to Eisner and the crew at Disney studios and distribution. So I look forward to getting to see that movie again hopefully when we see Eisner leave very soon.
