Lovely tale of two lost souls finding each other.

    Quote

Sentimental Journey is a beautiful but ultimately sad story about a married couple who are heavily involved in the theatre. The wife, Julie, cannot have children and suffers from a rare, life-threatening disease. Afraid that she will leave her husband alone, she decides to adopt a little girl. However she soon realises that her immature and possessive husband cannot accept the strange and dreamy child. In the stress of having to choose between the husband and the child, Julie succumbs to her illness and dies.

Overcome with grief, her husband withdraws from family and friends. Left alone, the little girl grieves for her adoptive mother and longs for the return of her adoptive father.

It is only when the little girl goes missing, in her attempt to find the ghost of Julie, that the husband realises just how much he loves the little girl.

  •

Shot in black and white, this sentimental film was a success upon its release. Maureen is wonderful in this dramatic role ...

    a small video

    Good reading

    Unconditional's Maureen O'Hara !
    French-English translation: poor !!!

Edited 2 times, last by Romy ().

  • This is one of my all-time favorite "weepers" with John Payne giving the performance of his life. Maureen O'Hara is great too. I wish Fox had released it before they'd stopped releasing classic films on DVD.

  • Totally agree with you. It's a wonderful film sentimental, very emotional. Of course, the scenario is simple but it must be viewed at the time of completion, in 1945 ...

    Unconditional's Maureen O'Hara !

  • Finally! A movie from my top-ten list of unreleased movies I want on DVD is getting a November 26 release from the Fox Cinema Archives:

Sentimental Journey, starring Maureen O'Hara and John Payne, directed by Walter Lang. It will make even the hardest of you hard cases here on the JWMB sob into your bandanna. ;) A great weeper. ;)

No DVD artwork yet but here's a publicity still. :)
