Posts from arthurarnell in thread „How About A Definative Listing For All“

    Hi Ringo

Taking up on Stumpy's very sound advice, you do what you want to do and take your project as far as you want to take it.

A draughtsman colleague of mine some years ago when I watched him drawing a detailed plan gave me some good advice. When I asked him how he knew when the drawing was complete he answered 'Its complete when I decide its complete'.

This is the same with a painting or a book, its your project and you decide how to carry it on or when to end it.

What you don't want to do is get downhearted and give up your research or this site. Everyone that sits in here has a contribution to make and you are a valued member as much as anyone else here is.

So as we say over here don't be downhearted onward and upward.

    Regards

    Hi Ringo

One additional name for your star list

    Fred MacMurray.
He made eighty-eight pictures seven of them were westerns, including The Oregon Trail (1959) Good Day For A Hanging (1955) Day of the Badman (1958) and The Texas Rangers (1936) which should meet your criteria.

One series you might like to consider is Circus Boy (1956) starring Micky Dolenz Noah Beery jnr Robert Lowry and Leo Gordon strangely if I remember right, as a good guy. which is described in IMDB as an adventure/western

    Hi Ringo and Hondo

The trouble the brits have with American TV westerns is just, that is what they are - American TV westerns. The majority of them never see the light of day over here and thus any contribution regarding stars, plots etc is impossible.

Currently and for the past ten years British TV is crammed with Hospital shows like holby City and Casualty and Murder Mystery shows like the Bill, Taggart and whatever book Lynda La Plant has just finished plus soaps like Eastenders, Coronation Street and Emmerdale with the odd Australian ones thrown in for good measure.

The TV western as far as British television is concerned, as a genre finished years ago with Maverick.

Its a great pity because seeing your lists and reading Wildest Westerns some of them looked quite good,

BBC2 will air a lot of old films and John ayne gets a good and regular airing but that is about it.

    Hi Ringo

    Taking Hondo's point,

    You can add

    Humphrey Bogart
James Cagney (Both in the Oklahoma Kid one of the worst westerns ever made)

Spencer Tracy (shouldn't be considered a fringe player as he starred in many westerns in his own right)

    Ray Milland
    Charles Bickford
    John Hodiak
    Barry Sullivan

Raymond Burr (the villain in a number of his early westerns).

    I'll continue thinking
