    A MAN ALONE 1955

    Ray Milland
WARD BOND He was 52 and looked good here, LOL.......always looks good to me.
    Raymond Burr
    LQ Jones
And others you will recognize. A bit different than most of the Westerns. Found out I like Ray Milland after all. KEITH

Gail may be her, Alamo............have found LOTS of pics when she was young, but I need to find some when she was older. I really think it is probably her. And I DID find where Gene had a stroke.....but it was in 1965.......I knew him in the early '70s. If it was a massive stroke.........he might still have had damage............by then it would have been permanent probably. Need to find some later film of him walking, talking etc. Thanks again! KEITH

Thanks Alamo, I will look her up and see if she is the one who came with Gene and Don all the time. After 40 years, believe it or not, I still remember what she looked like. Usually, I don't remember the ladies.

    Welcome Gareth,
Sometimes I have to remind myself that you are a YOUNG man, LOL. There are times that you really come up with some "gems" in your interpretations and explanations. Have never seen Castaway Cowboy. Looks like it is YOU telling ME new things to watch now. That is good. Sure wish we could get more young 'uns interested. It is VERY hard for me to believe, but....because of my book, I have been asking young people about John Wayne and other actors who are like "old friends" to us. Gareth........they have NEVER HEARD OF THEM! Very scary to think they all may be pretty much just lost to our society. Hope something happens to change it. I do my best to introduce young folks to the older movies. You know, some of them will NOT watch a movie if it is black and white! Well, must think of something a bit more cheery to continue the day with, LOL! KEITH

Thanks Keith, caught James Garner in The Castaway Cowboy last night, a disney film but I enjoy Garner in whatever he's in. He didn't have huge range but nobody played that sarcastic mercenary character with a heart deep down like he did. Like the Duke he did a great job of creating a personality on screen that people identified him with.

Thanks Alamo, I will look her up and see if she is the one who came with Gene and Don all the time. After 40 years, believe it or not, I still remember what she looked like. Usually, I don't remember the ladies.

I have no source, but read somewhere Gene was married, but had a long time affair with Gail Davis (star of the Autry produced Annie Oakly TV series in the 50s).

Thanks for the feedback guys it's much appreciated. I'll watch an episode or two and report back!

Gareth.........have seen the whole series two or three times, (first time was when it came out on TV, LOL). Too bad it wasn't an hour instead of just a half an hour......but they managed to get everything in without making it look "squeezed", LOL. Hal Needham, Dick's stuntman was responsible for teaching a more Shakespearian type man to look and act like a seasoned western expert in most everything. Dick coached Hal in acting. As Paladin had time in between his escapades, he attended opera, played chess and read everything he could get his hands on...........he also had been a West Point Graduate. Therefore, he was quite well versed in a great many fields. A person with a high IQ with a similar amount of time on his hands could well have accomplished the many things he did...........one thing that makes the series so interesting........far from boring as some of those types could be. I think you will really like it. One thing.......those of us who are fans are forever wondering why Paladin didn't have permanent brain damage from the repeated bashes to the head he received, LOL! Have a good one, Kiddo, KEITH

Somehow missed the Gene Autry Show when young...will have to go back and try to pick it up. A woman who was supposed to be Gene's wife....used to come and play golf at my club, Mission Hills, with Don Knotts. Gene almost always came also. He had recently had a stroke......could walk and talk but with difficulty. At the time, he owned at least half of Palm Springs! I have researched some, but STILL have not found anything mentioning THAT wife OR his stroke. Need to find a resource to back up that part of my book. If anyone has seen anything about a wife or girlfriend, (much younger) around the early '70s....I THINK she was a blond...I would surely appreciate the link. Also, anything that has to do with a stroke..can't find that either. Not unusual. Back then, a lot of those things were kept out of main circulation, and the Internet was not yet even a "light bulb".

I was always asked to play golf with them, but usually could not get away for the entire 18 holes. Almost ALWAYS though, I would meet them for a few holes on some part of the course.

Gene used to get a kick out of the fact that my brother and I named our collie after his horse, Champion. He was a very intelligent man and genuinely NICE man........I always wondered if he had an eidetic memory. I also wondered why Don Knotts was his or the woman's, (forgot her name), constant companion. Oh, and Don was not anything LIKE Barney Fife, LOL! But he did not really impress me much in any way.......his humor on the course was also on the sarcastic side. I have heard better things about him, but that was just what I saw.

So, will look up his show........thanks Keith. KEITH

Breakheart Pass starring Charles Bronson, Richard Grenna and Jill Ireland Bronson's wife who appeared in a few of his movies.

COWBOYS, just like the word says.

Loved Breakheart Pass........didn't know Jill Ireland was Bronson's wife, DUH...thanks. Oh, and Tommy, I think it was:
cowBOYS, just like the word says, LOL!

Very cool ZS. Imagine Clayton will always hold a special place in your heart. I know just how you feel. He is one I missed, but would have LOVED to have met him, AND Jay. Thanks for sharing that with us. Keith

I watched Will Penny and in the credits a name jumped out at me.........he sang the title song......DON CHERRY. He was a good friend of Gibbons and mine. Played a bunch of golf with him and also stopped at whatever lounge he was playing in at Vegas, Tahoe, wherever. I forgot what it was, but every time we walked in......he would spot Gibbons....he was TALL, and would stop singing and would sing Gibbon’s song. Looked him up and seems as if he is still alive at 90 and there is a number to call him. As soon as it is a decent time PST, I am going to.....forgot all about old Don. Super nice guy. His biggest hit was Band of Gold. KEITH

Maverick Episode 8 hostage, first episode with Jack Kelly, I didn't know what to make of him at first but he was pretty good as the episode went on, definitely lacks some of the star qualities of Garner but I imagine i'll grow to like him with time, doubt i'll watch his individual episodes though.

Have to agree with you there Irish! I watched Maverick religiously as a child. Never could figure out why they added Jack Kelly. Actually made me angry back then because I felt he "messed up" my James Garner shows. Yep, was a big disappointment to me.

I finally found Park Avenue Logger with George O'Brien and Ward Bond. It was the shortest "short" I believe I have seen, but it was an enjoyable few minutes. I had never heard of Mountain Men with Chuck Heston and Brian Keith, but it was pretty true to the actual Mountain Men of old and I dearly love both actors, so that was a great $6 find. Found a 2 disc set of The Guns of Navarone and Coop's "The Pride of the Yankees", story of Lou Gehrig with Babe Ruth playing himself, for $3 each. Enjoyed and recommend them all.

Watched A Guy Named Joe again. Oh, that is a super movie for me. Somehow, the script made the "after death" part undertoned enough so that is wasn't "smaltzy". And Ward was a bit like the "Major Seth Adams" he would later become.......strong yet very tender..........I believe he was beginning to develop that special quiet, soft yet deep, resonant voice that he consoled so many Wagon Train Passengers with. It is now one of my favorite Ward movies. I have two lobby cards from it...........plan to eventually get them all. No one will ever be able to do a good impression of that voice...Wagon Train tried when a couple of Ward's episodes had not been completely finished before his death, the speaking parts. It was an abysmal failure. Nope, that special "consoling" voice he developed will never be duplicated and it became so much a part of him. KEITH

    Wagon Train
The Story of Horace Best Major Adam's down the line cousin who decides to reinvent the wheel and do a fancified version of wagons west. In it is a song called, "Go West with Horace Best". If you don't want to be singing this song, even in your sleep........don't watch it, LOL. Cute episode. Also watched The Colter Craven Story, the one directed by Pappy with a cameo appearance by Michael Morrison, (Duke) and Paul Birch as Seth's old friend Sam Grant who became the President Ulysses S. Grant. KEITH

Hi Jim, I never had a chance to see him in Westerns but have seen him in a War movie or some Gangster like movie? but was over 30 years ago so I never had a chance to like him or dislike him. However, if he is as good in other movies as I thought he was in this one? ill like him well enough to collect ;-))

Oh and, this one as well as a few other Rod Cameron movies are featured in the Monogram Westerns collection Vol 1. I got mine through Gentleman Peter.

    Gentleman Peter.....like that,LOL!
El Dorado......LOVE IT! Duke should have had more small horses like Zip Chochise......beautiful and makes Duke look even bigger LOL KEITH
