"The Way West" - a western that could have been better because it tends to have a lot of boring sections. Stars Kirk Douglas, Robert Mitchum and Richard Widmark. About a wagon train going from Independence, MO to Oregon.
-
"Chato's Land" - a rather violent western, but good. Chato kills a red-necked sheriff in self defense, is chased by a posse consisting of ranchers and farmers. But he turns the tables on them in harsh territory.

"The Big Country" with Gregory Peck, Charlton Heston, Burl Ives, Jean Simmons and Carrol Baker. Good western.
-
"Cahill - U.S. Marshall" - Not one of Duke's best but still entertaining.
-
"Rio Grande" - One of "Pappy" Ford's three so-called calvary movies, with Duke of course and Maureen O'Hara.
-
"Red River" - One of Duke's best.
-
"The Searchers" - Duke hunts for his niece who was taken by Comanches
-
"Big Jake" - Duke western after baddies who kidnapped his grandson. On TCM yesterday

The first three installments of "Texas Rising" on the History Channel. Pretty good rendition of the battle of the Alamo and primarily the aftermath. The only thing I take exception with is the landscape which is nowhere like the terrain in actuality. The land is mostly flat or rolling hills, not mountains and cliffs.
-
"Fort Apache" - Venerable John Wayne movie.
-
"Extreme Prejudice" with Nick Nolte with a judicious turn by Rip Torn. This can either be considered a western or a non-western.
-
"Night Passage" - with Jimmy Stewart and Audie Murphy.
-
"True Grit" - the remake. Not a bad movie, but doesn't match Duke's effort.
-
"From Noon 'til Three" - A western departure for Charles Bronson starring with his wife Jill Ireland.

-
"Rooster Cogburn"
-
"Ulzana's Raid" - Burt Lancaster as a scout helping the calvary track down murderous Apache renagades.
-
"Three Godfathers," not Duke's, but the earlier one with Chester Morris, Walter Brennan and Lewis Stone - this on TCM.

"Rio Grande." I think Maureen O'Hara was one of the most beautiful actresses ever and she and Duke had exquisite chemistry. Have seen some of her recent photos and she is still very beautiful.
