Backlash with Richard Widmark. Big Widmark fan but it wasn't his best work.
Posts from The Irish Duke in thread „What Was The Last Western You Watched?“

4 for Texas love The Rat Pack but this was terrible.
-
A Man Alone with Ray Milland and Ward Bond, very good Western.
-
Been watching the Jack Kelly episodes of Maverick from season 1. Kelly is really good as the other Maverick, not Garner but more than holds it's own. The writing on that show really was excellent
-
The Over The Hill Gang Ride Again, really fun movie featuring many of our old favorites. Poignant and very funny.
-
Haha I don't mind their age it's just critics got pretty Hard on the likes of Duke, Jimmy and Hank as they got older and wanted them to hang it up leading to some very good films being overlooked. I'm always about on facebook Keith, follow all your posts in the Sinatra group and such saw that nice picture of Barbara McNair and Elvis you posted yesterday! I'm always around just sometimes don't have alot to say, always learning though!

Firecreek 1968 starring James Stewart, Henry Fonda, Inger Stevens and James Best, Dean Jagger, Jack Elam, Morgan Woodward. Five gunmen ride into a small town led by Fonda and start trouble and the only law is Stewart who is a farmer and a part time sheriff worth a look if you ever get the chance.
Love this movie, really underatted Western, despite their age Stewart and Fonda are both great. -
I think I found ya Rocklin is your background the quote tomorrow hopes we have learned something new from yesterday, mine is here https://www.facebook.com/upupandawayinmybeautifulmotorboat

Just caught up on all those posts Keith, always great when a thread works out that way! I watched Jesse James the other day was pretty good but I would have preferred more Fonda.
-
Hey Rocklin, my facebook is Gareth Cross and my twitter is @garethvcross incase anyone is interested.

Iv'e been around, ain't been as active on here as tbh things are really quiet at the moment, i'll always be floating around facebook though. Thanks Keith you're always there to steer me right haha. I think i'll give one a go today and report back!

How good is Randolph Scott? I liked him with Duke in Pittsburgh (one of my favorite less known Duke movies) and The Spoilers, would Ride The High Country, Seven Men From Now etc be my kind of thing?
-
An episode of Bret Maverick, not really sure about this show. Garner is the only shining light really.
-
I think Rooster is really underatted, fun movie don't see the problem so many critics and non Duke fans seem to have with it. Wouldn't have minded another Cogburn movie even if Duke was getting older.
-
Showdown with Rock Hudson and Dean Martin, was a decent Western from the latter part of their careers, seeing ol Dino is always a treat though.
-
The pilot of Bret Maverick The Lazy Ace, it didn't really have the feel of traditional Maverick for me though i'm willing to give it a go. Gutted to be finished the original series, might have to go back and watch the Jack Kelly/Roger Moore episodes
-
The New Maverick, as a Maverick fan I was very disapointed in this, Garner was great as usual but the new young Maverick guy was terrible and it was sad to see Jack Kelly aged much before his time.
-
Chisum and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. Chisum must be the most underatted movie the duke ever made.
-
Tom Horn with Steve McQueen. A very interesting film about how the West quickly wanted to forget it's violent past and how a man must eventually pay for his crimes, one way or another.
-
The relationship between Duke and BJ is one of the best things about Chisum another fine movie. I only have one episode of Maverick starring Garner left before i'm done, real shame as it's been an absolutely superb series.
