Thanks for that very interesting and insightful post. I had seen Robert Bradbury's name on the older Lone Star films, but hadn't really thought about his hiring John Wayne at that time being instrumental in giving the Duke the continuity in his career to bigger and better things. And the part about his son being Bob Steele, one of the Duke's best friends, was a piece of trivia that had escaped me entirely and which I enjoyed learning.
I think you are totally correct in speculating that John Wayne might never made it big had it not been for that string of movies and Robert Bradbury's efforts.
