Just getting over a hot spell last couple of weeks . . . this morning, when I woke up, I actually felt a bit of a chill (we leave our windows open at night, this time of year) and I thought, "Fall is on the way."

However, as the Mrs. pointed out to me, some of our hottest days of the year could be yet to come next month (yep, we have some real scorchers in October!).

But for the time being, I will enjoy that chill!

We are in Phase 1 drought restrictions, which is voluntary, making reasonable efforts to conserve. In the city of Santa Cruz, they have mandatory rationing, only allowed to water outdoors on certain days and between certain hours. We are currently in a high fire danger alert status. We can reasonably expect to not see rain until the end of October or later.

Just this past weekend, the signs about the Phase 1 drought reduction were changed to

    Severe WATER SHORTAGE
    No Outdoor WATERING

    What a difference a couple of weeks, and several 90+º days make . . . .

    Mrs. C :angel1:

The Mrs. and I are revelling in the early morning cool, around 60º right now.

Yesterday, we were at a wedding in the wine country north of San Francisco, and boy was it hot! The wedding was at 5 PM, and it was 98º!! I was never so glad to see the sun go down. It was a beautiful wedding, but it was too hot!

    Chester :newyear:

Well its finally settled down after a very hectic couple weeks.Sunny and 80 through the rest of the week and into the weekend.

We had over 8 inches of rain in my home town in one day but just to our south and east they had 17 inches of rain and lots of people are displaced from the homes or they have lost just about everything in them.

My house was not hit to bad but I did loose 2 nice big tree's in my front yard and thank god they fell how they did our else I would have lost part of my house with them. so we have been cleaning them up.

Todd, thanks for letting us know that all is well with you. Every time I was hearing about the bad stuff in Minnesota, I wondered where you were in relation to it all.

    Mrs. C :angel1:

Some of you may have seen pictures on the news or especially "The Weather Channel" of all the flooding here in San Antonio. Fortunately I wasn't in those flooded areas, but had plenty enough of rain. Showers predicted to continue today and tomorrow to a lesser degree, but possibly taking aim on us again is Dean maybe coming in sometime next week.
    Cheers - Jay:beer:

    Jay,

THANKS for the update on your circumstances. When I hear about San Antonio, I think of you, and when they talk about Corpus Christi, I think of Carl. I wonder about SXViper when I hear about flooding in MInnesota . . . you get the picture. Always happy to hear our friends from around the country and the world have "weathered" the storms.

    Mrs. C :angel1:
(dealing with 90+º temps every afternoon this week  )

Yeah, that hurricane Dean is looking pretty wicked. I guess they won't know until Monday or Tuesday what to expect for the Gulf area. Batten down the hatches, Carl!

I'm sure glad we only have to worry about earthquakes. We don't have earthquake season, and at least we're in ignorant bliss until it happens.

    Chester :newyear:

    smokey,

We will be thinking of you. We had a less-than-normal amount of rainfall last rainy season (less than 30" for the season, normal is over 70").

Don't forget us in southern Georgia. On the plus side, my mater plants should keep making maters till frost.:hyper:

    Mater, as in Tow-Mater?

The Mrs. LOVES vine-ripened maters (as do I!)!:hyper:

The weather's warming up around here, hitting 92º today. But it's been good hot-dog selling weather, as we had one of our best days at the park so far this summer, today.

    Chester :newyear:

At the risk of jinxing ourselves, it's been in the mid-eighties for the past few weeks. We couldn't ask for better hot dog-selling weather!

I do feel for you guys, with the relentless heat, because when it's hot, I sweat like Boss Hogg - I'm looking for that sweat rag to wipe my face down!

    Chester :newyear:

We are in a typical pattern for this time of year - overcast in the morning, with the clouds burning off by around 9 AM, then sunny and warm for the day, cooling considerably by evening.

    Mrs. C :angel1:

Well, we've had a streak of really good weather, although it's been hot the past few days (at least by our standards). Chester actually got the air conditioner running today, for the first time this season. Today it was 96º when I left the house for the airport, but it was 66º at the airport!! Love that fog!!

Thank goodness we don't have the humidity, and that it really cools off at night (it's 69º now, at almost 10 PM). We just turn on the window fans through the night, sucking in the cool air, and in the morning we close the windows (double pane), and it takes most of the day before it gets uncomfortable inside. But now we can turn on the air conditioner, thanks to my sweet husband, Chester.

    Mrs. C :angel1:

Come on out to California, 20 million illegal aliens can't be all wrong.

The weather where we are is generally very good. Some parts can be unbearable at times (unless you're into really hot weather, 24/7), but in our neck of the
(red)woods, we can be assured it WILL cool off at night.

Now being able to afford to move here . . . that's another thing. The great weather comes with a price.

    Chester :newyear:

Its been mid to upper 70's the last 2 days. down around 50 at night. Great sleeping weather. I am glad to live where I am, the heat drives me buts, just ask my wife!!!

We had several days in the seventies, and today it inched up into the eighties. But last night, the low was 48º F - GREAT sleeping weather.

The heat drives me nuts - just ask my family! Todd, you are a man after my own heart!

    Mrs. C :angel1:

    In a word -

    HOT!!!

    We hit a high of 98º F.

Poor Chester darn near melted :cry2:(pretend that's sweat, not tears) in the back of the truck in the parade, in the blazing hot sun!

At 6:30, it was down to 88º.

At least it cools down a lot at night - we can hardly wait!

    Mrs. C :angel1:

P.S. Two hours after I posted this, we took our youngest to see the fireworks. It was actually so cool we closed the car windows! What a difference, once the sun goes down! Now it is a little after 11 PM, and the temperature is 66º F.

I am sorry for all the humidity you guys are suffering - truly I am. I can't stand the humidity. I'm almost ashamed to say that we are having wonderful weather today. Sunny, 80º F and no humidity to speak of (I'm sure there must be some, but it's not enough to be of consequence). We were down to 48º F overnight.
