It's raining cats and dogs here right now, I'll give you a rainfall total in the morning!

When we left our house EARLY Sunday morning, it had been pouring rain around here, and when I arrived at our destination in far Northern California (a six hour drive away), it was beautiful and sunny. Chilly, but sunny!

Today, when we drove home, it was sunny the whole way!

California is surely a state of wide contrasts - cold and snowy in the northernmost points, and down in San Diego, it's beach weather. In the westernmost parts (i.e. the Sierra Nevada mountains), it's even colder than northern CA - and way more snow!

smokey, sorry to hear the little bloke is still feeling poorly! Like Ringo, we will keep him in our prayers.

As for the weather, it's really turned 180º around here. Last week, it was in the 70s and sunny during the day, for several days - really beautiful.

The past few days, it has been C-O-L-D!! Down to the mid-twenties at night, today it didn't go any higher than 48º F, and it might snow on the higher elevations around here over night!

We expect to be gone for a few days, and may or may not have access to a computer while we are gone.

Wow, you'd think it was summer around here the past week!

Daytime temperatures in the 70s! Not a cloud in the sky!

Still winter at night, though - down to 30º F - br-r-r-r-r-r!

This is a good thing for us, personally, because we are having work done on our deck, and it's really progressing nicely with such good weather ! Before that, with a day or two of rain per week, it was going rather slowly .

Well, the groundhog seems to have slept in around here. I was looking at the weather forecast for the next two weeks, and it looks like clear skies as far as the eye can see, and unseasonably warm weather. Today was about 70º F, although the overnight low was 32º F. It cools down a bunch at night, but it looks like spring-like weather for a few days, anyway!

Sorry to hear about the miserable heat - I know what you mean, thinking you will be . That's how I am in really hot weather - can't stand it .

In a more back-on-topic tone , our weather has been quite mild recently - we had a high of 62º F yesterday, with last night's low being a "balmy" 52º (that's quite warm for overnight around here, for this time of year).

And for those in the US and Canada, today (February 2nd) is Groundhog Day, and Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow - read more about it HERE.

Well, we just have to comment here . . .

In the San Francisco Bay area, there is a radio station, KGO 810 AM, which is a news/talk radio station. They have had the same weather man in the morning for many years, Leo Ciolino. Back in '93, the Mrs. called the radio station to volunteer to be one of Leo's many weather watchers, and has been doing it ever since. He calls her every morning during the week, and gets the overnight low temperature, the rainfall, the current morning conditions, and the high temp from the day before. Around here, everyone knows that Leo is VERY reliable with his forecasts - he often hears other weather forecasters changing their forecasts after he gives his <_< .

So . . . this morning's low was 26º F, yesterday's high was 61º F and it was clear and calm when he called this morning. Today's high was 64º F.

So if anyone wants to know what the currrent weather is at our house, just go to KGO-AM 810 - Listen Live and click on your preferred listening device, and around 8:38 AM Pacific Standard Time (that's GMT -8), you should hear Leo giving that information on the air - just listen for the stats from Ben Lomond.

That's our little claim to fame around here .

So . . . smokey and Bek, just how close are you?

Getting back to the topic, we went down to 34º F this morning, with an afternoon high of 58º. Not unusual weather for our area, for this time of year. Beautiful sunny day today, but expecting rain by tomorrow night.

The clouds cleared overnight last night, so this morning when we woke up the temp was down to 28º F (-2º C!). By day, we hit 58º F, and it will be cold again tonight. By tomorrow night, it is supposed to rain again, and that will keep the night temps moderate (close to 50º F). It's an interesting climate we live in here in coastal California.

Thanks SO much for doing that! I had thought about it a couple of times, but just didn't have the time when I was thinking of it, so appreciate you taking the initiative!

Here, in the Santa Cruz mountains of California, at a little after 6 PM, it is clear skies and 48º F (or 8º C).

Before morning, it could get into the mid-thirties if the skies stay clear.

I don't know if that was a typo on your part, but 0º C = 32º F.

That doesn't sound especially warm to me either, but it might be compared to a much colder temperature, like 0º F, which would be -17º C!
