Posts from SXViper in thread „How's The Weather“

It has been hot and humid but the weather in the northland is changing and by Monday they are talking hi's in the middle 60's!! Yee Haa, bring on winter!!!

Very nice, upper 70's to lower 80's and still another 3-4 days of that till any rain comes. I just hope it doesn't get to out of control with the heat.

The hardest hit areas are about 10 miles from me and then you can basically go about 60 miles from that point and everything in between has been drastically changed. My cousin had, and I say had, a house in the town of Stockton and him and his family spent the evening on there roof unitl they could be rescued. They basically lost everything in there house. Like I said before, there are alot of displaced families and most if not all families and buisnesses didn't have flood insurance. IBM(where I am employed) is having days where they take volunteers to the hardest hit areas and help with the cleanup. It is truly amazing what nature can do but more amazing is what people can so afterwards. It is by far not on the scale of what happened in New Orleans but for up here in Minnesota it was bad.

Well its finally settled down after a very hectic couple weeks.Sunny and 80 through the rest of the week and into the weekend.

We had over 8 inches of rain in my home town in one day but just to our south and east they had 17 inches of rain and lots of people are displaced from the homes or they have lost just about everything in them.

My house was not hit to bad but I did loose 2 nice big tree's in my front yard and thank god they fell how they did our else I would have lost part of my house with them. so we have been cleaning them up.

We are very dry, need rain bad!!

Nice and cool this morning but the heat is on tomorrow and according the the weatherman, going to last till atleast Thursday.

I think one of these years (hopefully) im going to move to either: The Land of Lincoln or to The Land of the Vikings. To Southerners thats, either to Illinois or Minnesota. I love the weather you guys get during our hot humid summers.

Today, a repeat of yesterday. :stunned: :stunned: :stunned: :stunned:

Its been mid to upper 70's the last 2 days. down around 50 at night. Great sleeping weather. I am glad to live where I am, the heat drives me nuts, just ask my wife!!!

Hot and stormy. I was in Albert Lea, MN over the last couple days for the 4th of July(hometown) and they had a tornado warning, lots of rain and straight line winds. It concelled the parade, toppled trees, knock over corn, and generally made a mess of things. But it did stay nice on the 4th so the kids get to see the fireworks.

We are hot now, 91 today and humid in southern MN, no rain till tomorrow evening. Thank god I am heading north, its still hot up there but the nights cool off faster.

Well not to rub it in for you guys down south. We got rain and more coming tomorrow. The worst thing this year has been that it has been so darn windy all the time.

It has been rainy and windy the past 3 days. I start turkey hunitng tomorrow so I am hoping the wind dies down. Rain is bad but when its windy its almost impossible to find a ole tom to shoot at.

It's hot, it's steamy and I HATE that Atlanta traffic!!!

That's why IMHO its only a nice place to visit, not to live. I don't mean to be rude when I say that either. I have been going to the Atlanta area since 1994 every year(multiple times a year) and if I am there in the summer I am like, OMG!!! Minnesota boy in Hotlanta!! Not good. Other thing is, to many people. It is a beautiful area but I just cannot get by those 2 things.

Man, Albert Lea looks like it has about 7 or 8 of those 10,000 lakes in the immediate vicinity. And it looks like your hometown of Plainview is roughly the size of the town I live in (about 3,000 population).

Are any of you folks aware of this web site? It's fascinating because you can type a geographical location into the search engine and it will give you a bird's eye (actually a satellite) view of the place. You can zoom in and out and actually pick out individual structures (or at least their roofs). A friend of mine clued me in about the site a few weeks ago and I've had a lot of fun "flying" over the earth's surface exploring new and unknown places (such as Albert Lea and Plainview, MN). You can even save the views to your Documents folder. I saved a view from about 500 feet of my sister's house and the surrounding area and emailed to her. Blew her cotton-pickin' mind.

    P.S.
Not all areas have good resolution. You can buy a copy of the software that'll give better resolution but the freeware is good enough for my purposes.

Stumpy, yes. the town I live in now is about 3,000 people. Both my wife and I work in Rochester. I work for IBM and my wife is a nurse at the Mayo Clinic.

Albert Lea is basically built around a lake, Fountain Lake. It also has a lake connected to it called, appropriately, Albert Lea Lake. Here is some info if anyone is interested in Albert Lea and its history. http://www.albertleatourism.org/albertlealake.html .

This is supposed to be a picture of a park bench beside St. James Lake in Minnesota. Is that anywhere near you, Todd?

This is roughly 120 miles west of me. I live NE of Rochester,MN(Home of Mayo Clinic). And we are about 13 miles from the Mississippi River. I was born and raised in Albert Lea, MN so I know of the city and the lake.
