I watched The Visitor this afternoon. No sex, no violence, no swearing. Not a lot of action. A character study with a great performance from Richard Jenkins.

Seance On a Wet Afternoon
-
Tropic Thunder. Robert Downey Jr. is great.
-
I watched Sneakers which I saw in a theater when it first came out and hadn't seen since. Good movie.
-
I saw Taken this afternoon. Not really my kind of film but Liam Neeson was the star so I made an exception. It wasn't as gruesome as I thought it would be. I kept my eyes closed through the torture scene. It didn't sound too bad and the guy had it coming. Liam shot a lot of pople but they didn't spurt blood or guts they just mainly fell over. It wasn't a bad action film.

Indiana Jones- the Depends Years. The series should stop.
-
Australia. It's dreadful.
-
The Long Hot Summer. I swear, Joanne Woodward was given a bad hair-do in every movie she ever made.
-
I watched Into the wild this afternoon. I read the book and really liked it. I was really looking forward to this film. It got great reveiws but had a limited released and never made it to my little town. Although the acting was good, I thought it was dull and slow.
Often times when I have high expectations for a film, I end up being disappointed. I need to aim lower. I've also been put off by Sean Penn's borish behavior at Cannes. I think under different circumstances I might have liked it more. -
I watched the Wind That Shakes the Barley, winner of the 2006 Palme D'Or at Cannes. It wasn't as violent as I had heard. It was about the Irish troubles in the 1930's and a good film. Somtimes the Irish could use subtitles.

Juno. Terrific little independent.
-
The Third Man was on TCM yesterday. That is my co-favorite movie along with The Quiet Man.
-
Michael Clayton. It's an intelligent film you have to pay attention to with great acting.
-
The Black Dahlia. ick.
-
I saw Breach last night. The story of Robert Hanssen, the spy who sold secrets to the Soviets. I thought it was a terrific, intelligent film. Chris Cooper is a great actor.
-
I've seen The Departed twice. It is a great movie. Scorsese is the best director working today. This should finally bring him an Oscar. Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Martin Sheen, Mark Whalberg, and Jack Nicholson couldn't be better. It is a violent movie. The first time I saw it I cringed, the second time it didn't bother me much.

I had a Ralph Fiennes double feature, the Constant Gardner and Sunshine. Sunshine isn't that well know but it's a good movie and Fiennes plays three characters, grandfather, father and son. He really is one of the great actors working today.
