Posted on this once, must not have submitted it.
Bill, believe my tooth is a little longer than yours, LOL.....
However, since you and Alamo seem to think along the same lines as I, believe I will give Casino Royale with the new guy a shot. I liked Pierce in other things, but after the initial SHOCK of seeing Moore, I wasn't ready to take anymore chances of ruining the Bond in my mind's eye. So, I am taking your advice. Would be nice to be able to see the new Fleming's that SC never got to do. Thanks to you both! KEITH

The Bonds "jumped the shark" for me, beginning with On Her Majesty's Secret Service, continuing with Diamonds Are Forever, and thru the Roger Moore films. Now, don't get me wrong, I loved the Moore films, but none of these came close to matching the early films in the series. The Craig films are easily as good as the early Bonds.

Ya know Bill, I was an ardent fan of Ian Fleming, and read all the Bond books I hadn't and waited with baited breath for any new ones. I really had a Bond character entrenched in my mind. When I first saw Sean Connery in Dr. No at the theater, (I was 12 or so), I felt as if my characterization had been embodied, truly. I had never remembered seeing SC before, so this was a real treat to find him exactly as I had envisioned Bond in all the books. I THINK it was Thunderball, (if it was filmed in the Bahamas), where, in an underwater rehearsal and some "monkeying around", he shot, by accident, my friend, Johnny "Pool" in the leg with a speargun. Johnny was an old timer, very well known around the Bahamas, Keys and Miami Beach for treasure diving, salvage diving, etc. He and Sean hit it off...hard not to with Johnny...such a character and full of marvelous stories. Whenever he was truly broke, he always seemed to get someone to drive him to a coin collector friend's business where he came out with a pocket full of money. Even though he and his girlfriend Patti, lived with me in an ocean front efficiency for almost a year, he never told me where his stash was or WHAT it was. We all just assumed, in all his diving years, he must have stumbled upon an old wreck with a number of dubloons or something of the sort.
Sorry, carried away again. Anyway, I watched the first James Bond without Sean and that was it. Never tried again. Guess I just prefer to keep Sean in my mind as Bond forever, LOL. Bet I am missing out on some good ones now. Think the first was Roger Moore? Anyway, he was so far off the mark that it almost ruined it for me forever.
I still very much enjoy watching the Old Bonds....think there were seven or so. Is there one particular one that you think I might actually LIKE as Bond. I am willing to try again since you know them all and are a fan as I.
    Thanks, KEITH

    Three movie holiday weekend.
Flight. Denzel Washington. Another fine acting job by this great actor.
Skyfall. This maybe the best Bond movie ever. I own them all.Big Bond fan.
Lincoln. One of Mr. lewis great acting performances.
This will be a fight for best actor between Washington and Daniel Day Lewis.

LOL, never saw it either, Peter. But, think I can wait a while for it...not on the top of my list. Last I watched was a couple of documentaries of John Ford. KEITH

If your talking about Hell Is For Heroes? you HAVE to see it. Its got VERY few militaria mistakes in it but everything else is top notch ;-))

I just rewatched: Breakthrough w/ John Agar, David Brian, Frank Lovejoy and Paul Picerni--again for about the 20th time since buying it a few months ago. I watched it for many reasons--one was to prepare myself for all the American Military weapons I was hoping to see at the gun show--saw some nice Garands--but not many.

More of the Dean Martin Show.....just amazing the guests he had and the relaxed comraderie. He was always with the other stars, but never really delved into some of the things they did. Like the Rat Pack....he did commercials for the Mob, like the others, but he usually steered clear of fraternizing with them......not so the others...they loved the parties, "broads", etc. Dino was "in" the group, but not really PART of it. KEITH

Tapes of the Dean Martin Show. My goodness, the pop in guests, the laughs, great songs, I mean, I am SO GLAD that I ordered these when Mom and Dad were alive. They REALLY enjoyed them, and I am still doing so now. Duke "sang" Dino's theme song, and I swear, it really looks as if he were singing it while Dino just shook his head, LOL! For someone who hated being a singing cowboy, he sure did enjoy this LipSync job. Wonder if this is the one where he got his pills mixed up and took a downer instead of the upper he was supposed to take. He sure was relaxed! KEITH

ET the new version for the first time.
I saw it originally on the big screen alone and laughed out loud and cried silently. After that, I took a great many people to see it so they could enjoy it as I did. Not one did not like it, although I was pretty skeptical about a few.

It is just so amazing that Spielberg could get those techs to put so much emotion, caring, fear, understanding, etc. into those different "machine's" face and body language. I WANT an ET of my own, LOL!

    KEITH

I too saw the Poseiden Adventure on the Big Screen first time. Atlanta was good in that it had a great many movie houses and got early releases quite often.
Will never forget Mom telling me of coming from Athens to watch the premiere of Gone With The Wind in 1939 at the grand old Fox Theater. Keith

You sure know your stuff, Kiddo. Hope you are doing well. HAGO, KEITH

No blueray for me--just regular dvd. Now that I get a closer look at some of the German "stuff" im a bit irritated that on the officers uniforms--most of their rank pips--are mere brass buttons ((ROLLEYES))) SIGH!!!!!!!!!

Oh and, not to nit-pick too much but--on Mulhare's tunic--he's wearing the wrong Infantry Assault Badge. As he's regular line Infantry--he would be wearing the Silver IAB and NOT--the Bronze version which would be for Panzergrenadiers-meaning--those infantrymen who served with PANZER divisions-and not Infantry Divisions or the Gebirgejagers. Off my collectors soapbox now.

Well, yall, at 62 years of age and then some, I STILL get nightmares from things like that, LOL. I read The Shining and some others back around that time and forced myself to watch a few when made into movies. I really enjoyed them, but...........the nightmares still come. Silly, but, that is just the way it is. Thought I would NEVER get over Silence of the Lambs, but Hopkins is FINALLY one of my favorite performers again....had to see him where he played a super nice guy a few times first, though! And he is excellent at that also. Well, enjoy all your Halloween things.....I will enjoy them vicariously, LOL! This year is NOT one for me to be having nightmares.

Getting ready for my trip. Very excited. Long time no getting together with folks, playing music, and trusting my horse on rough trails through the mountains. The "cabin" is quite luxurious also. Here is a bit about it:
    http://www.leatherwoodmountains.com/cabins_heart.htm Our cabin.

Here is the promo bit on the place:
    http://www.leatherwoodmountains.com/
It's only about an hour from my house....the other three girls, (ladies), are coming from about 4 hours away trailering the horses. Sure hope one is a good videographer!

The cabin has DSL wireless, so....guess you won't get a break from me! I want to be sure I finish posting the detailed screen caps of Hatari....catching the giraffe, the water buffalo, and last but definitely not least......the RHINO! Just posted catching the zebra. Even gave some roping tips on there that show why Sean missed the critter the first time....actually, he didn't miss him, just forgot what his left hand was doing.....not enough slack caused the perfect sized noose to close too much before it completely settled over the zebra's head. Have been practicing a LOT with my lariat. Not accurate over 10 feet, but dead on anything that or under. Picked up a well broke in one from my tack friend Dennis yesterday, (he supplies most of the rodeo folks in the US....lordy what a difference....hard to miss at all with that one! My horse, Carat is very good when I rope from his back. No saddle horn when you ride bareback, but he remembers when we had one. As soon as I rope my target and pull the noose shut, he feels it and begins backing up until the rope is taught....then he plants his feet. I was amazed that he remembered. As I have said before...smart horse, dumb Momma!

Well, hope to get lots of beautiful shots.....leaves should be right in the middle of perfect color changes.

And sure HOPE we get into the movie they are making about the most rugged horseback trails in the US. Moon and I will be wearing full AMM, (mountain man gear), sans rifles...no guns allowed in park. Ought to attrack the cameras!

Later, still have some cooking and packing to do......Keith

I totally missed this post. I absolutely LOVE this film!
In fact it was through this film that I discovered Ward Bond as John L Sullivan, before seeing him with Duke. I think this is one of the best performance of his career and the scene at the end in the crowded bar after he as lost is a true classic.

Boy, that gave me goose bumps Peter. Thought no one liked that. So nice to see how much you appreciated it. By the way.......LIST....I borrowed it, LOL.

I memorized that little speech he gave. I have had several of my Irish friends say that his accent was DEAD ON. Of course, he has used it in other movies also. I WILL have to say though, he didn't entirely steal that
moment. Errol Flynn's humbled reaction was a surprise....I thought he played that excellently.

As for Ward, of course, I think he is great in lots of things. But one of his best performances, along with Frank McGrath and Terry Wilson, was in Wagon Train The Weight of Command......one of the very best.

    Oh Ward....57...so young! KEITH
