Couldn't get the "Multi-quote" to work so I copied and pasted, LOL.

    I watched another grand classic:
The Great Escape. Such a great all around cast and story. This movie will never be bested in a milliion years.

Last I watched was Gone with the Wind. As for the Great Escape, believe I saw it about 10 times in the movies Ringo. And the whistled song has never left my head! What a super movie! KPKEITH

Ringo Kid, Here are part of the lyrics we learned back around 1960.

    The Army Song
    Over hill, over dale,
As we hit the dusty trail,
And those caissons go rolling along.
In and out, hear them shout,
    “Counter march and right about”
And the caissons go rolling along.
Then it’s Hi! Hi! Hee! In the Field Artillery
Shout out your numbers loud and strong,
Wher’er you go, you will always know,
That those caissons go rolling along,
And those caissons go rolling along.

Are these the words you know, or are they the new ones?

We performed in many places, but we were most appreciated at the VA Hospital then on Peachtree road around Brookhaven in Atlanta It was not at all like the ones they have now. But the men were the same. They cheered in many places throughout a song. And those who COULD stand, did so when we finished. For two more years, we went there every Christmas and made it our own special "CHARITY". We sang something most folks don't even know about it. Mom was a Lt. in the Navy Waves in WWII. She taught us Waves of the Navy. We sang it in Harmony with Anchors Aweigh. It is a very moving thing. Can't find it anywhere to download but can find text about it. Can't find Breakthrough, but will keep looking. Thanks, KPKEITH

Sorry about your friend Ringo. It is so hard to watch a part of you die. Hope he can go peacefully. Need to talk, PM me. I was a nurse in ICU/CCU before I began my rambling around. Perhaps there are some old time things I know to help his last days more comfortable. Never heard of Breakthrough, now I want to watch it. How do you find it? KPKEITH
Just watched The United States Military Band play the song. The lyrics posted are not quite the same as when we learned all the Military songs in Chorus in school. For one thing, it was the CAISSONS go rolling along. I looked it up and can only find The Army Goes Rolling Along. Is it the same one you like? Here is something I found about it. When we learned it in school, I remember associating it with John Phillip Sousa, (I call him "the March King, LOL).
The song is based on the "Caisson Song" written by field artillery First Lieutenant (later Brigadier General) Edmund L. Gruber, Lieutenant William Bryden, and Lieutenant (later Major General) Robert Danford while stationed at Fort Stotsenburg in the Philippines in March 1908.[2] The tune quickly became popular in field artillery units. In 1917 the Secretary of the Navy and Army Lieutenant George Friedlander of the 306th Field Artillery asked John Philip Sousa to create a march using the "Caisson Song." Sousa changed the key, harmony, and rhythm and renamed it "U.S. Field Artillery."[3] Sousa didn't know who had written the song and had been told that it dated back to the Civil War

So, which song is it? I will look for the movie. I love this type of thing!
    Thanks for the post, KPKEITH

I NEEDED to watch again: Breakthrough w/ John Agar, Paul Picerni, & Frank Lovejoy. Reason being is that the theme of the movie is the Army Song: The Army Goes Marching Along. Im doing that viewing to honor a vet friend of mine who "isnt going to be around much longer" :-(((((

The theme song makes me feel slightly better on hearing it.

Hi Stumpy, I watched Secretariat last week or so. It had a feature plus on it with the real owner who kept and raced him. Also, it had the original Triple Crown races, full footage. The original owner was in the film in a few places also. Ebay has Rio Bravo for, I think $15. Or they did a day a while ago.
Hang in, you will get a fair price. I still cannot believe that horse....33 lengths and still pulling away. The feature said when they necropsied him, his heart was OVER twice the size of a normal horse's. His owner said it was in both ways......boy it shows her and that horse together......real love! SUPER MOVIE!

I bought a Blu-Ray player about 10 days ago and for my first Blu-Ray film, I bought and watched "Secretariat". Excellent movie.

Today I ordered from Amazon about 10 Duke films in Blu-Ray but wasn't willing to pay the $47.99 asking price for my all-time favorite "Rio Bravo".

LONG GONE. With Virginia Masden in her first starring role and Billy Peterson, later to become William Peterson or Gil Grissom on CSI. Twenty and more years ago, they stayed at my hotel while filming. NEVER realized until today that Billy turned out to be who he was....one of my favorites! Great baseball movie about the minor leagues in early years. If you like country music, sound track is great. True story about Cecil "STUD" Kantrell. Have the link if you would like to watch it. Not sure if I am supposed to post it or not, LOL.

LOL Peter...for me Ward Bond ALWAYS steals the show! KPKEITH

    Shame on you Arthur!
I just managed to get my hands on it a few weeks ago and unbelievably that was the first time I'd seen it!
The Duke has somewhat of a smaller role in this one and for me Ward Bond steals the show.

Pretty sure I have never seen this. I tended to stay away from non-western JW's when I was a kid. I am catching up on them now, and some are great, (like Island in the Sky). Watched an old one with Duke and Ward, (Ward died early from an accident on the deck), and enjoyed it because Duke was so young and wasn't riding a horse! It was an old Sea movie....not the Long Voyage or the Wake of the Red Witch. Will have to find it. A good episode in Wagon Train was called "Around the Horn", and I thought was excellent.

OK, what is this BLUE RAY? Is it much better quality? What do you play it on? Can you get all the films on it? DUH...Newbie showing through again! KPKEITH Help, Mark, LOL!

The Barbarian and The Geisha in Blu-ray. I've only seen this film one time before, and enjoyed it more the second time around. Not a great film in relation to all his other masterpieces, but enjoyable all the same. I loved watching Duke stand in front of that canon so the Japanese couldn't fire on the ship in the harbor. The way he acted so slyly and movies with the canon was great.

    Mark

I just loved CG when I was young. Told Bill I used to take the bus way into downtown Atlanta by myself when I was 12 or so where the old fashioned big theaters were. One was the Fox a very famous one that had a ceiling with stars, clouds, fake "boxes", etc. The Rialto was owned by the grandfather of one of the neighborhood kids'. I remember, he took us down in his limousine once a year, we saw a movie and then he took us across the street to a restaurant where you could pickout your own lobster, LOL. First time I had lobster and have been in love ever since. I THINK I remember a CG movie called to Catch a Thief. I really enjoyed it. Will have to look for it on Netflix. AND, I am going to start looking for old movies in the big Cinemas again. Just have to find someone who wants to go with me. Believe I remember Holiday also. Ride hard and don't put 'em up wet! KPKEITH

Well, I watched Secretariat and thought it was great. And, because Ward was in it, (turned out not much, but a very different part than he usually plays), the remake of Riding High with all the same people in it. Bing Crosby was the star and the owner of Broadway Bill. Nice movie and lots of good horse action as was Secretariat. Secretariat has some really good extras on the DVD I got from Netflix. Has the original footage of all the Triple Crown races including the unbelievable Belmont, the longest and most ardurous of the TC races. And this horse finished something like 33 lengths ahead of a horse that was supposed to have great stamina. I believe, any other year, that horse would have won the TC. His and his owner's bad luck that Penny Chennery was able to keep her horse running....she is the original woman who raised him and fought against tremendous odds to keep him. All the rest of mine have been Westerns!
Oh, Forgot They Were Expendable. That is the movie Ford wrote a special part into for Ward because he still couldn't walk without a crutch and he needed money badly. Most of the movie, he does his parts just standing. Then, he is wounded in the leg allowing him to lead the men off with a crutch at the end of the movie. Duke was his usually great self! KPKEITH
