Cavendish won again today in a sprint. He certainly is the fastest man on 2 wheels at the moment. I saw him win in a race, not far from here, in april and he came from nowhere. Great to see him win then and great to see him winning 3 etappes this tour. Too bad about Beltran, Ricco and the other one but I forgot his name now. They should've been smarter.

Today is the start so don't miss it.....do you get most of it live on your tv or is it just a mix of what has happend during the day? What with your time difference ofcourse it might be difficult to watch it live...

Is anyone watching the GIRO? There is only a week of the race left and it's been fab up to now. Yesterday and today they have been back in the mountains, riding through the snow so to speak and plenty of rain. Tomorrow its a individual climbing time race and I'm glad that I don't have to work in the afternoon so I can watch.
Also brings a smile to my face that this belgian bloke is there again, He is always carrying a HUGE umbrella in the Belgian colours and his name on top, there is no race that you can watch when he is not there, -
What a weekend we have had here! Saturday was the Tour of Flanders for the public, those people are just the same heroes for riding the 264 kms in harsh weather. And sunday... WOW what a race!! We haven't had one like that for a couple of years now. The whole family was gathered and had a ball. What a wonderful event!
Here's a video I found of saturday, beautiful compilation

Next sunday it's the Tour of Flanders but the sunday next is Paris-Roubaix and that is just as much important to us all here.
I have found some stuff on You Tube from the old days which I think you might like.
1976 with Merckx, Maertens, De Vlaeminck and Goodefroot. Wait untill about 6 minutes when Maertens takes that fall! Scary stuff

1985 with LeMond, Van der Aerden, Kelly. Watch the interview with Greg! Too bad for Moser about the fall.

And the last one from 2002 with Museeuw. Hincapie in the ditch! I remember I was about to pull out my hair in frustration watching this LOL

I ahve been loking on the you tube site and found some good vid's on the RVV. This country is making itself ready for the biggest event of the year so I start with some advertising
YouTube - Ronde van Vlaanderen 2008
YouTube - The 2008 Spring Classics only on Cycling TV
Then some sphere-images from last year's
YouTube - Ronde van vlaanderen 2007
YouTube - The Muur Tour of Flanders 2007 -
I think you guys should live in this country. We get all the major races live on our tv. And the newspapers sure make you not to forget it's on! I should find someone who has a region free DVD recorder so I could have the Tour of Flanders and sent it out to you to see. The Tour of France is massive but nothing can beat the atmosphere of our tour!

Hi Ringo, I thought the Tour of California was around the same time as the Tour of Missouri of which we also had coverage in our newspaper. And I'm pretty sure that was in the fall. Never mind though, the more cycling the better!!!
-
The Tour of California is in september or october is it not? I remember reading about it in the newspaper. No coverage on our TV I'm afraid.

Another afternoon in front of the TV to watch Kuurne- Brussels- Kuurne. Saw the last 80 kms and it was not so spectacular as yesterday although several riders took a nasty fall and 3 of them had to be taken to hospital. Not so good in the beginning of the season. The top 10 of today:
1- De Jongh (Netherlands)
2- Langeveld (Netherlands)
3- Goss (Australia)
4- BOONEN
5- Franzoi (Italy)
6- Bozic
7- Traksel (Netherlands)
8- Kroon (Netherlands)
9- Jalabert (France)
10- AMORISON -
Today it was the official start of the new cycling season with "Omloop Het Volk" (or should we say Ghent-Ghent) Great race to watch (saw the last 70 kms) many riders took a nasty fall and none of the favourites came into view! Very good race for one American I think he was named Friedman (must check again) never heard of him before but was in top 15 so good on him!
1- GILBERT
2- NUYENS
3- Hushovd(Norway)
4- Krivtsov(Ukraine)
5- Kuschinski (Bella Russe)
6- Jalabert (France)
7- HOSTE
8- Johansen (Denmark)
9- KUYCKX
10- Gérard (France)
Tomorrow it's Kuurne- Brussels- Kuurne another spring classic. -

This has nothing to do with the Tour de France but as this is the cycling topic I place this here.
It's winter and that means we have here in this part of the world the season of cyclo-cross. By far this is my favourite sport and I love to go on saturday's and sunday's to see the riders. If it's too long a drive I stay home and watch it on the telly. Best of all is when it has rained a lot the previous week and it's very muddy. Even better is it when the weather is real bad on the day, even with loads of rain and "hopefully" snow. My favourite is Bart Wellens (see my avatar) but the bloke winning just about everything is Sven Nijs. A new young bloke coming up is Niels Albert and from Holland there's Lars Boom. Great sport to watch extremely popular here. We have a few American riders this season but Sven Nijs is unbeatable at the moment and most of the time we do not see them in the top 10. -
What a magnificant photo we had of Floyd Landis in our newspaper.Unfortunately it is too big too scan, been looking on the internet but have not found it yet.
Incase anyone should be interested here are a few links.

End result after 10 laps:1.Bauke Mollema(holland);2.Tony Martin(Germany);3.André Steensen(Denmark)

Thanks for showing these pics. Also, Antwerp is a nice city, I could handle riding through there.
If you can, please keep me informed on other races you know about. We don't get hardly any news or any-on other races.
I'll keep you informed
