The Tour de France is happening right now in France but since my brother is an amateur cyclist I will post a few pics of the race he did last monday. He came in 16th which is not bad at all!

Haha yes I heard there was an incident with a dog, was in Holland I believe. And I bet the dog said that! They always complain that the cyclists don't look out at any other traffic on the road!!

A few more...

Here are some pics I took.

We had the Tour de France yesterday and it was a lovely day. I took loads of pics from the caravan but as we knew that there were 3 cyclists out front I filmed them and 4 minuts later I filmed the peleton. It went to fast that I did not see anyone LOL

I went to the Scheldeprijs on wednesday, a semi- classic race which starts in Antwerp and ends in Schoten. Here are a few pics I took before the race started.

Apparantly the TDF will pass Kapellen around 15:30. Festivities are planned in my village and the 2 bordertowns for the whole weekend. It's going to be one huge party! Last time the TDF passed in my village was in 1973, I still remember that we waited and waited and after the drivers passed we went to buy a new sofa!

The Tour de France is passing my town next year on sunday 4th of July. No need to get out, I only need to open my windows and look outside as they will drive through my street Have been thinking of making a HUGE banner and put it on the roof and perhaps the helicopter might film it when they are passing here. That would be awesome!

Has anyone watched TDF this year? I haven't seen much I'm afraid, glad that Armstrong didn't win (goes into hiding...) but the good news is that wednesday I am going into Antwerp for the After Tour Derny. Cavendish and that italian bloke (with the difficult name I can't remember right now) will be there so it's going to be fast

Is anyone watching the Tour of California? We had this morning the etappe of yesterday. Lance Armstrong came in 10th. I hope they give today's race later in the day tomorrow so that I can watch.

Another month or so for the Cyclo-Cross and then the Spring classics start again here. The cyclo-cross season has been brilliant so far what with the snow and ice and such. It's been long since we had such a season. Also riders from foreign countries are doing great, I'm glad they give our Belgian riders a run for their money! Specially the Chech riders are brill! World championship is coming up later in the month and it's just across the border in Holland (say max 20 minutes away) this year so we will be going...
And Lance Armstrong is doing AND the Giro AND the Tour.
Isn't cycling a great sport?! -
Today we went to Hamme-Zogge for the Superprestige. Great race and I have finally warmed up a bit. Found this on You Tube, it's from our national news

I also like watching the Giro, do you get coverage of that race aswell? I missed out on the Vuelta this year, don't know why but I haven't watched much tv the past few months so that might be the reason...
We had the final race of the year last tuesday "Sluitingsprijs" here in Kapellen and this weekend the winterseason of the cyclo- cross starts, tomorrow it's here in Kapellen so I am definately going I will look up some links and put them here. Hope you are interested, if not there's no harm done in posting is there -
I read today in my dad's newspaper that LA will be doing the Giro next year and most probably NOT the Tour de France.
-
Well the Tour is over for this year.
Sastre won the yellow jersey
Evans came 2nd with a difference of 00'58"
Kohl from Austria was 3rd with 01'13" difference
5th was the American Vandevelde (with a very Belgian name!!) 03'05" I wonder if he will be the new American bloke, sure did a fine job, was very long 3rd.
Hincapie came in at 1h08'15" he is number 35. Not bad but it would have been nicer to see him in the top 10, yes I admit, I got a soft spot for George
Tuesday we have a race here in the village, luckily they start "late" at 17:00 so there's plenty of time to get home after work, we are supporters of Michael van Staeyen, pretty good young rider. -
There is a Tour of Missouri as we get coverage of that in our newspaper. Isn't that next month or in september?
Hincapie came in 5th a couple of days ago in the Alps. Great to see him, I've always liked him. But he's been going for a long time and getting older so we're bound to see less of him. Cadel is doing great but also that guy from Luxembourg...Schleck? Or something similar to that?! His brother is in the white jersey...or at least was...I haven' t watched yesterday and have not seen results. Have you seen that finish a few days ago when the last so many kms where downhill right untill the finish. Very scary to watch....specially when that one bloke went over the edge, luckily he was seen again, his bike was not! They did close to 100 kms an hour, gave me the creeps wtaching. But great, great finish! -
Well Cavendish finished his tour for this year. Last saturday was his last day. Now he needs to rest because he said that after the Giro and this Tour he was very tired and in less than 3 weeks he has to be in China for the Olympics. He can't be beaten in a sprint, I've seen him in the flesh some months ago and honestly he pops up from nowhere. Brilliant to see it "live". I bet he'll do great at the Olympics...

Cavendish did it again today! He's the best sprinter around at the moment. Cadel Evans still in the yellow jersey.
