I think that aside from the false employment offer Tom Mix inadvertantly got Duke started in his acting career. Mix had asked for a box seat to watch U of South Cal football games and the deal worked out was a Private Box for Mix and a number of part time jobs for players on the team at Fox Studios. Both Duke and Ward Bond were in the group that was sent down.
