Posts from Stumpy in thread „Kevin Costner“

Costner is a giant compared to Cage & Reeve. I have two planks of wood in the garage with more expression and depth.

That said I enjoyed Point Break despite Reeve's involvement. Bill & Ted was his most natural performance. I watched the 1st installment of Matrix that was enough.
I do wish the bomb would have gone off in Speed. I see he was born in Lebanon and is in remake of The Day the earth stood still. Is he playing Gort by any chance:wink_smile:

Cage I suppose Moonstruck is passable other than that I get the urge to kick the TV when I see him.:glare: He only got were he is because of Uncle Francis Ford Coppola!!!!

I enjoyed Cage in "Raising Arizona" and especially "Con Air". Liked "Speed" with Reeve.

Wait a minute Cage is a good actor. Famly man was funny, both National Treasures, and The Rock.
Reeves in The Matrix series will be the measure of any scifi movie.imho.

    Not legends though.

Both Reeves and Cage have made movies I enjoyed. Not many but a few.

I agree he was very good in "The Untouchables". It was my favorite Costner movie except the two excellent Westerns mentioned earlier. I didn't much care for the Robin Hood thing and as for JFK, I wouldn't watch an Oliver Stone movie on a bet.

At any rate, Costner has a long way to go before he reaches "legend" status. Which is not to say that I haven't liked several of his films.

I'm not willing to endorse Kevin as a "western screen legend" because as you said, he's only made four westerns and of those four, I'd have to say that only two ("Dances With Wolves" & "Open Range") were of the caliber that would qualify him for eventual legendhood. He wasn't bad in the other two but they certainly don't reach the marvelous heights of some of Duke's better westerns. And I think we're all agreed that our main man truly was a western screen legend, based on his lifetime ofwork. His only other film that I thought was excellent was "The Untouchables" and he had a lot of help in making that such a fine film from Sean Connery.
