I must admit that I haven't seen this thread for a long time but the pictures are very very good, I think it was John Ford who was very reluctant to shoot in colour, (although I know he did a lot of films using colour)
A lady Takes a Chance was a comparatively cheap film like many of that time designed to advance the career of the female by playing them opposite John Wayne. The fact that he was able to mix comedy with romance says a lot for Waynes capabilities.
The film looks good in black and white as the photographs clearly show, perhaps Ford was right some films should be made in black and white and of more importance left in black and white.
