I'm from the 60'ties, good century for Duke movies, more specific 1964!!!

1951. Which means I'm a senior and due some respect.

I took a college course in German while stationed there in the early Seventies and just barely passed. It's a hard language to learn.

What threw me more than anything else were the genders der, die, das, which correspond to the English he, she and it. To an English speaker like me, there seemed to be no rhyme or reason for designating an object by gender.

When I'd had a few German beers (much stronger than American brew), I could rattle it off pretty well. Which is why every time my (German-born) wife and I went to see her folks, my mother-in-law always offered me a beer first thing.

I took German too, and it just drove me crazy. I can see two genders (masculine and feminine), but why three (neutral)? And each gender has its own version of "the" depending which one of four cases it's used in. That adds up to 12 versions of "the." English speakers manage to get by with one. It just seemed unnecessarily complicated.

I was born in the June of 1971. So I'm the big 40 in a couple of months time.

September, 1949. My Mom used to kid that I was born on Labor Day.
