I just read an article in the American Cowboy magazine about a Rodeo hero, Fritz Truan(Frederick Gregg Truran), 1915_1945. You might know about him. In WWII he inlisted in the marines and became a Sgt, on Feb 28 1945 he charged up Hill 382 Iwo Jima, his men followed him, but he was brought down by enemy fire. IAW this article John Wayne was inspired for the role in The sands of Iwo Jima because of there friendship.
