It sure is my favorite score from all of the Duke's films. Very stirring, I think. -

Once upon a time in the West is, in my opinion, the very best of all the spaghetti westerns. Even better than The Good The Bad and The Ugly. And the Man with the Harmonica music is by far one of the most haunting pieces I've ever heard.

Though IMDb lists Western fourth in the genre list (behind Drama, Family, and Romance), it has the horses and cowboys and action that put it in the Western genre first for me.
One of best scenes from the movie The Man from Snowy River is accompanied by the rousing music -

[/extendedmedia]Here's the other music that is associated with this film, of a much more quiet nature -

there is a video on you tube of the making of the theme from "the good the bad and the ugly". It's pretty cool.

Well, I finally received from Amazon my DVD of the original "Monte Walsh", which is among my favorite Westerns. I ordered it several months ago, as soon as I heard it was being released, but since I always order Amazon merchandise via free shipping (which is only offered for purchases over $25.), they waited to send it with a new Tom Clancy book I had ordered at the same time but which wasn't released until about a week ago.
Watching the movie this afternoon. It's a very good Western, which I highly recommend. Parts of it are hilariously funny but the tone overall is sorta sad, since it's set during the passing of the old cowboy West, which is one of my favorite periods of American history. The original is much, much better than the Tom Selleck version, IMO.
