Hey, folks, this coming Sunday and next Wednesday are the opportunities to see True Grit on the big screen!
-
Welcome, AndyJ! Happy to have you aboard! I agree with Kevin, not too many college professors would be able to give an A on a paper about our hero, John Wayne.

Sad news indeed. Shared it on the JWMB Facebook page.
Here's a GoFundMe page setup to help with funeral arrangements. GoFundMe: Top-Website für Online-Crowdfunding und Fundraising
For some reason (maybe because I was in a hurry?) I couldn't find the JWMB FB page, because that was the first place I wanted to share it. So I shared it to mine and tagged whoever I could think of in just a couple of minutes, and I forgot at least dukefan1.

For those who know him, our very own @Colorado Bob lost an adult son, Douglass, in a tragic traffic accident. I just learned it on Facebook. Douglass was a son, husband, father, and grandfather. As you might imagine, the family is devastated by his sudden death.

Fun videos, porfle! You did a good job catching those things!

Thank you and hello... lifetime JW fan, my dad got us kids hooked from birth... I have a son named after JW character in The Searchers.... my kids love watching JW, now a days kids don’t watch westerners... but mine do.
So thank you so much again glad to be apart of a great group of people..
Welcome to the JWMB! My kids got to watch more than their fair share of Duke movies growing up, and are often surprised when they encounter friends who have never heard of John Wayne! Glad to know your kids aren't in that crowd!
Hi! I live in South Florida. I am a huge fan of John Wayne as well as many of his co-stars. I possess a few handwritten Ward Bond letters from his early years and a few John Wayne autographs from his later years as well as one John Ford signed photo. I am always looking to add to my collection so if you see one on the net that I might have missed feel free to let me know.
I am here because I want to share this love for John Wayne movies with other fans. Thank you for allowing me to join. - James Powell
James, welcome! Those are some impressive collector's items! Glad to have you join us here. In addition to this being a pretty awesome John Wayne forum, we do have 'mini-forums' within, that honor such greats as Ward Bond and some of Duke's other co-stars.

Here's a YouTube video I made a while back about THE SEARCHERS:
It's almost as if the vehicle stops to watch the action in its distance (what we are focusing on, as the movie viewer)!

Guy in the middle, pointing at JW: Hey, guys, get a load out of this guy's goofy hat!
-
Duke: Hey, how did you rate a real slicker and I got stuck with some black trash bag?
-
The Mrs. and I are still around, though not as frequently (I am working full-time, with a 3+ hour total commute for the day).

A bit late but a great read. I missed this originally when you posted.
I, too, missed it the first time around, and concur that it was a most interesting article. Thanks for resurrecting it, Kevin! Thanks, Bob, for posting in the first place!

Probably far more appealing to people who live in Newport Beach, I would think. I'm with you, Mark.

A little late to this conversation, but I think we would be interested, simply based on the few pieces of art you have shared here. Really glad to hear it is without aliens!

TMZ: Actor, comedian Jerry Lewis dead at 91
Wow . . . he seemed almost timeless. Didn't quite make it to Labor Day weekend this year.
-
PERFECT picture, Kevin!

OK, for the privilege of the lady's company . . . Rock, Paper, Scissors!
-
Victor McLaglen: Ma'am, I don't know how to break this to you, but that purty white coat won't stay that way for long here at camp.
Duke: I tried to tell her, but she just wouldn't listen.

When I heard of his death, I pictured him in my mind in True Grit, and also thought about the fact that one of my earliest record purchases was one of his albums. One of the celebrity deaths that is more impacting for me.
May he rest in peace, freed from the ravages of Alzheimer's.

I know when that poll was first put up, our son was also too young (like smokey's). He is 21 now and I think he would consider himself a John Wayne fan still. Maybe it IS time to update the poll. I know I was in a different age bracket back in 2003.
Maybe an idea to make the poll more "timeless" would be to put brackets of birth years instead of age brackets. My birth YEAR won't change over time, but certainly my age bracket will.
