  • Hi William and Ethan aka Keith

Ethan is a nice name if I had son I would consider Ethan more likely to be John mind you LOL

Yes, Bernstein Williams and Goldsmith were geniuses whose work is grossly under rated. The late Bernard Hermann who worked on so many Hitchcock movies was also in their class.

The sad thing is modern audiences at the cinema will not see their like again as orchestral arrangements cost studios money and they would rather penny pinch with electronic music or forgettable pop songs.

If somebody asked you to name a film soundtack in the last 20 years you would be hard pushed. The recent Mummy movies are the only ones that come to mind with me and they were composed by Jerry Goldsmith.

At least we have the CDs. It would be great if Chisum was released as an OST CD.

  • Howdy All,
So far, I think I have just about all of the John Wayne soundtracks (thank you again Arthur, I am eternally indebted to you). The ones I am missing and cannot seem to find (but I'm still looking) are:
    Big Jake
    Chisum
    The High and the Mighty
    The Sands of Iwo Jima
    The Barbarian and the Geisha
    In Harm's Way
True Grit (the new one, not the old one)

I do have some of the music from some of these films on compilation CD's, and although they're good and enjoyable to listen to, I try to find "complete" soundtracks that feature just the music from the particular film. I've purchased some from Varese Saraband, and Buysoundtrax.com, but as yet have not found any of these on ebay. But, that's half the fun of collecting John Wayne memorabilia, THE SEARCH!

    Best to all,
    Colorado Bob

"I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people and I require the same from them" It may be time worn, but it's the best life-creed I know.

  • Hi Colorado Bob

You can get True Grit and Big Jake from Buysoundtrax (USA) and Chris’s Corner (Germany) via Ebay or go directly to their web sites from their ads and buy directly from them if you prefer not to use Ebay.

  • The Cowboys by John Williams would be my favourite selection.

Elmer Bernstein True Grit Sons of Katie Elder Mc Q

Max Steiner The Searchers is a classic its own right and Richard Hageman
    virtually visualises the Stagecoach story.

Also, worth a mention is Rio Lobo by Jerry Goldsmith

  • Thanks Mike! I just went to Buysoundtrax's ebay store and bought the True Grit Complete Original Score CD. They did not Big Jake in stock, but I'll keep looking. I have dealt with them before and they're pretty reliable, and easy to work with. Thanks again!

  • Great to hear you got True Grit Bob you will enjoy it.

The other guy from Germany is okay to deal with as well.

I use him rather than buysoundtrax because any CDs arrive with me within a few days as it is coming from Germany rather than USA.

Price wise they are much the same

  • I think some of the titles are getting close to the 3000 mark and will soon be discontinued.

I had a copy of Big Jake that leaves less 300 units left.

Nice that they are having a success but if you are missining titles I would act soon.
