There's something about this movie I just love. I know for many its an inferior follow up to True Grit. But for me I found its whimsical banter between Wayne and Hepburn to be authentic and more of a 'day in the life' moment for the character. I really enjoy the score to the film and its just a relaxing good time to watch. Sad to hear he suffered so mightily on the set. No one could ever question his passion for the craft.

I call BS on the main premise of the author saying that John Wayne was using his big closing scene in The Searchers as a statement on his views of the way Hollywood was heading.
It’s already been well documented and spoken by Duke himself what the meaning of that scene was and who he was honoring in it.
And as to the author’s statements of Duke being disgruntled about seeing the industry headed down the toilet well what can you say except that he was right!
By and large what we get out of Hollywood today is garbage. They haven’t had an original thought since 1978.
Duke saw it coming and was sad to see it. I’m sure part of his frustration was in the realization that he couldn’t prevent it.
Agreed. In this day and age we have to be mindful of people trying to play revisionist history to fit modern 'we-think' ideologies. That's happening allot because younger generations have not been taught context nor its relationship with art and opinions of the day. How interesting it will be to see generations 50 or 60 years from now and what they say about today's philosophies.

Full grit? LoL I'm assuming you meant True Grit?!
LOL! And it was that kind of morning folks!

I woke up early before work this morning and actually watched all of True Grit.

Bohemian Rapsody. AMAZING film! If that actor does not win an Oscar for playing Freddie Mercury, it would be a crime.

The week of Thanksgiving is when I traditionally start putting in my John Wayne movies for heavy viewing. The day of Thanksgiving, "Yellow Ribbon" is a staple movie playing in our home.

When we start losing the young stars of the 70's that is a "stop in your tracks" moment. Yes. We are getting old.

Humm. Wonder Woman ? I read one review , it was panned. May be worth a look.
No. This is called Wonder. Came in second this past weekend. I bet it gets best picture.
-
My wife and I saw Wonder this past weekend. Absolutely terrific film. I recommend this to everyone. So many life lessons in that film. I was completely surprised how the film seem to follow one track but then evolve into another. You think you're getting life through the eyes on one person, when in fact you get it through the eyes of many more. Brilliant movie.

Definitely a holiday favorite I will be playing Thursday.

I would like to see this clip.
When Han, Luke, and Leia are running into the hangar to leave Tatooine, the spy who has been tracking them tells the Stormtroopers. That's John Wayne's voice completely doctored. You'll never know it's him but it IS him. http://s861.photobucket.com/us…oper_zpsrzscznlp.png.html[/img]

Thanks for the updates!

I bow to your imperial knowledge on this subject and from some googling it appears you are correct.
LOL. No problem at all. Not a bad way for our beloved hero to ride off into the sunset, yes?

Wow. We are losing so many great people.
-
A voiceover in "Star Wars", really?
Yep. Imperial spy Garindan.

Richard Anderson Dies: Oscar Goldman From ‘Six Million Dollar Man’ Was 91
Rest in peace old pal. Very sad.

That was a great reflection on John Wayne. That about describes me accurately with regards to the affect a John Wayne movie has on me. When I want to relax and get comfortable, John Wayne is the tonic I seek. In fact, I'm sitting here this morning typing this with a cup of coffee and a copy of El Doroda playing. I have a long busy day in front of me and I wanted to start it with a boost of energy.
I think part of my love of John Wayne is I can always count on who it is I see, both in movies and in interviews. His kind are from a generation we seem to be losing right now and I belong with that generation. So I watch these movies to both hold on to those days, but to also remind me that values never change, people do. I'll stick with the principles and values I grew up on.

Watched this again last night. I honestly don't know why it's not loved more. John Wayne certainly has some great lines in it and the cast overall is pretty iconic and do a good job. Plus I love the soundtrack.

Silence
Throughly depressing Scorsese film.
Scorsese excels at depressing.
