Hi.
I'm a new registrant on the board, though a Wayne fan of some fifty years standing. I revered the Duke - though he wasn't aware of it, I "adopted" him as the father I never had (my parents were divorced when I was four or five years old) because his screen persona represented everything a boy wants a father to be, i.e., strength, dignity, courage and integrity.
As everyone knows, Big John was also very patriotic and that too is a trait to be admired.
I remember standing in a box office line to see the film "True Grit" (one of my favorite films of all time). I was amazed and rather amused to see that standing in that line with me were not only gray-headed oldsters (John's "base" fans), but also long-haired hippies, kids of all ages and everthing in between. The Duke's appeal was timeless; he appealed to everybody.[/b]
Hello Stumpy,
Welcome to the board, I'm glad you found us!!
Yes, his appeal is huge, I think it's more now then ever before. I try to watch atleast one JW movies a week (making sure the kids are around )
Any more thoughts on this??
It's been awhile since we have kicked this question around.

I really need to take this time to thank the moderating team here for making the site the best JW board around. Thanks guys for keeping us in line!
Cheers!
Kevin
Well it's interesting to see that 30% of the respondents of the poll indicate other countries.
I hang my hat in Atlanta Georgia, (Which is pretty close to Hondo) and was born and raised here.

Ps. Slugaholic86 tell us more about where you live at in Italy and how you found this site.
Some sad news today Country Music star Johnny Cash dies at 71.
Here's a link to one of the stories:

Also, John Ritter (son of Tex Ritter) dies on the set of his new TV series "8 Simple rules". Ritter is also the voice of one of my kids favorite PBS cartoons "Clifford: The Big red Dog"

Raymond,
As I have shared in a post in a different thread, the horse from True Grit was living up in Southern Oregon as recently as 2 years ago. I'm going up there in a few weeks, and can check to see if the horse is still around and see what other information I can dig up.
Chester
Hey Chester,
Did you ever findout anything about Dollor? Did you get the chance to go up to Oregon?
Just wondering.
That sounds alright. I'll be 90 years old before I ever see 5000 posts at the rate I'm going =)
How about the suggestion the old Chester has posted above.

900 Post=Big Jake--------2000 posts

Hey guys,
I like what BrianB has come up with. Is there any adjustments/additions that we want to make?
Do they have to be in front of the camera? One person that has been on the set alot with JW is William H. Clothier. He was truly (and literally) behind the camera.
Duke/Clothier
Train Robbers, The (1973) (director of photography)
Big Jake (1971)
Rio Lobo (1970)
Chisum (1970)
Undefeated, The (1969)
Hellfighters (1968)
War Wagon, The (1967)
Donovan's Reef (1963)
McLintock! (1963)
Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, The (1962)
Comancheros, The (1961)
Alamo, The (1960)
Horse Soldiers, The (1959) (as William Clothier)
Blood Alley (1955)
Fort Apache (1948) (uncredited)
I like the scene in The Searchers when Ethan and Martin are tracking Scar, and it's snowing. The lines that Wayne have is one of my favorite "Just as sure as the turning of the earth. Just as sure as night follows day......" I love that scene!!

Demille is one of the Hollywood greats that I can't seem to put a face to. I'll have to gather up WOTRW and watch it.
I was exposed to John Wayne movies at a very early age, it seemed that every holiday (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, and the 4th) my Dad would have some JW movie on the tube. I'm more of the Duke western nut , than a military one. But I'll watch either one just the same.
