It's such a shame they took so long to make this film. If only they had filmed "Rooster Cogburn" in about 1971 then they could have made "Sometime" in 1974. As it is, Katharine Hepburn had good chemistry with Duke, even though she was far too old for her part. I think they should have made her father her brother, since they were the same age.

His best performance was in "The Leopard". Visconti was his favorite director.
-
Of course Ward Bond was an excellent villain in "Tall in the Saddle", but he wasn't allowed to do anything due to censorship.
-
I didn't like the film at all. Claudia Cardinale was totally miscast, her Italian accent was all wrong for the character. It was tough knowing that Duke was so ill with lung cancer, and the smoke from the fire made his cough even worse.

It will be either Guiliani or McCain.

I like this film, although as others have said it certainly isn't one of Duke's best. I think they should have cut some of the scenes where they were just riding their horses with nothing being said. Ben Johnson was great as always.
7/10.

Another actor who I have always liked, particularly in westerns, is Burt Lancaster. Does anyone know if Burt and the Duke knew each other? It would have been interesting to see them make a movie together, something like "Vera Cruz".

Ah yes, Duke certainly dominated the film, but Dino and Walter Brennan were very good as well. It's just a shame they didn't get a better actor to play Colorado.

Hi I'm a longtime JW fan, I have many of his movies on DVD and watch at least one a week.

The action scenes were great, but I thought the movie needed a better story.

Actually I think McQ was more of a copy of Bullitt than Dirty Harry. I quite enjoyed both of the Duke's cop movies, even though he was clearly too old.
-
But wasn't Ward Bond already dead?

What was the one exception?

Apparently Clint wanted to make a movie with Duke, but Duke refused. It seems he hated "High Plains Drifter".
