What Was The Last Western You Watched?

First four episodes of "Whispering Smith", the TV series that Audie Murphy starred in as an old west detective.

The one season of the half-hour series is on DVD now.

It's Not bad...kind of average, but good old style story telling (I love how they could tell a good story in less than 30 minutes back then! )

Interesting to see a very Young Robert Redford as one of the bad guys in one episode. Good for Audie Murphy fans like myself!

CHUKA 1967 Rod Taylor,John Mills,James Whitmore & Ernest Borgnine.
Action weastern about indians attacking a army fort. Not bad but made on the cheap side.

Ive been wating a copy of that movie for ages-mainly beacuse of the cast in it.

This morning I cought most of some Western (not in time to catch the title) on TCM which had Tom Tryon or either a Carey in it as a Cavalry Captain. Something to do with a young Army Doctor who has compassion for the Kiowa Indians and is basically labled a traitor.

ringo i thing the western that you watched was they rode west with robert francis.he played a young doctor that phillip carey dont like and he helped out the kiowa indians when they had malaria.

Hi Ringo, many many thanks. Ive seen part of that movie before but never from the beginning. Same thing happened early this morning. I was up in the mddle o the night and cought part of an old Robert Mitchum and William Holden Western-again I didnt get to see the title and this too was on TCM. I recall seeing this movie probably about 30 years ago.

"The Glory Guys" with Tom Tryon, Harve Presnell, Slim Pickens and James Caan. MGM has some new to DVD titles and I had to see this one again. It's a take off of Custer's last stand that was written by Sam Peckinpah after he was deemed untouchable when "Major Dundee" tanked. Oddly enough, Senta Berger and Michael Anderson, Jr. are in both titles.

Davy Crockett, Indian Scout w/ George Montgomery. Pretty nice Western and is a damned shame that almost none of his movies are available on DvD. What the heck is wrong with hollywood?

there are so much stock footage of kit carson in that western that it kinda rooned the film on me.one minute im watching george montgomery and the next im watching jon hall.

Heh heh, I guess its good that ive never seen Kit Carson ;-)) ive always been a bit of a George montgomery fan. Two favorites with him in them are: Fort Ti, and Battle of the Bulge.

"The Sheepman" one of my favorite Glenn Ford movies.

"Gun the Man Down" starring James Arness. A good little B western from the 50's. One of those that are low on budget but strong on story. It's one of a stack of three I got that were produced by John Wayne (although he's not credited). The others are "Escort West" starring Victor Mature and "Plunder of the Sun", a non-western starring Glenn Ford

ZS, I think "The Sheepman" is a great, unknown western. If I recall, it was written by William Roberts who is also credited with "Magnificent Seven" even though Walter Newman did most of that one.
I just finished an obscure one - "Catlow" - with Yul Brynner, Richard Crenna and a surprisingly sinister Leonard Nimoy. Not world class, but a fun watch.

I have seen Catlow many years ago. It´s not so bad! I think it is based on a story by Louis L´Amour and wasn´t Bill Shatner in this movie too?

At the moment I am watching the first seasons of Big Valley, The Lone Ranger and High Chaparral, because they were now released in German language.

I have seen only a few episodes of Big Valley before and I like it - Barbare Stanwyck is great! I have never seen the Lone Ranger before, but I played with a Lone Ranger action figure as a young boy and I read the comics. And High Chaparral is one of my favourite TV-Westernshows!
