Nice ones Larry. As good as they were together, it is hard to believe that Duke and Lauren didn't act together until his last movie, The Shootist!
Thanks for your pics, KEITH -

Been delving into some of Duke's non Westerns lately and iv'e been pleasantly surprised.
Blood Alley- Had heard bad things about this and that Duke wasn't too fond of it, but I certainly enjoyed it. I didn't really know what to make of Lauren Bacall as iv'e always found her voice very off putting but it was a good story of Duke trying to lead people to freedom and it was well told with plenty of twists and such to keep the story interesting.

Well, Robert Mitchum was tapped to play the lead, and Duke was producer. It was filmed (partially) where Duke and Pilar were honeymooning...
Mitchum got "rowdy" with director Bill Wellman, even (as a "joke") pushing him off a pier at one point. Wellman was NOT amused, and told Duke that it was either RM or him, AND if Duke didn't play RM's role, he'd leave. So they let Mitchum go.
Duke didn't like that he had to play a role written for Mitchum, but he did...
