  • The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok is an American Western television series which ran for eight seasons from 1951 through 1958.
The Screen Gems series began in syndication, but ran on CBS from 1955 through 1958,
and, at the same time, on ABC from 1957 through 1958.

Like Kit Carson, a Wild West adventure series,
    targeted mainly for the kids.
Guy Madison and Andy Devine were perfect for one another,
similar to the partnership of Roy Rogers and his sidekick.
This was really the pinnacle of Guys career.#

Duke fans might well recognize the filming locations,
    Big Bear Lake,San Bernardino,
    and the usual ranches,
such as Gene Autry's Melody Farm
    and Ray Corrigan's, Corriganville

  • Man, this was probably my favorite tv western back then. It paved the way for me to love westerns and to watch all the western shows that followed this one. I remember Kelloggs Sugar Corn Pops was the sponsor and if you bought some in the store, the boxes had pictures of Wild Bill or Jingles on the front.
But Keith, as for TVLand putting this on, I wouldn't count on it. TVLand has gone downhill in the last few years. All they do now is show the same old tv shows over and over plus, I guess they decided they could produce their own shows because now, they have a couple of stupid ones on. One has to do with women competing for some modeling job, the other is about former high school classmates having a 10 yr reunion. And it's usually the ones who thought they were the coolest and some are trying to see if they can connect with a former sweetheart to see if the magic is still there. Really dumb and neither show has anything to do with old tv shows.

  • Here's a clip of the intro, from a later season and in color.

I watched so many Western TV shows when I was a kid, and this was one of them. To this day, Andy Devine is one of my favorite character actors (right up there with Gabby Hayes!).

While passing through Kingman, Arizona, on my way to the 26Bar Ranch in 2007, we discovered that Andy Devine called that town his home, and he is considered a local celebrity there.
