  • In the history of movies there have been thousands of chase scenes.
Were they by horse, car, train, plane or on foot.
One of my faviorites is the foot chase in the beginning of Casino Royale. That chase pumps up my blood. What are some of yours?

  • Interesting thread Bill, thanks for starting it.

Duke of course in many films had memorable chase scenes,
particularly those in the Lone Star series,
    and in many others afterwards

  • There are a few of Duke's that I can think of, one in particular. Very unusual one. But I'll see if anyone else can come up with it.

Duke was to race over a hill on horseback and intercept the railroad in a canyon, then gallop alongside it, and leap onto the car, from his horse.

  • Can't think of which of Duke's films that Bill has in mind.
In the meantime, I'd like to nominate Virgil Hilts' wild cycle ride toward Switzerland in "The Great Escape". It helps that it's intercut with other escape flights by the rest of the cast, but with Bernstein's thumping action music, this one really soars.

    We deal in lead, friend.

  • My all time most favorite chase scene(s) is with Buster Keaton in: The General. Others I favor greatly are: Steve McQueen in: Bullitt and in The Hunter, Fess Parker in: The Great Locomotive Chase, William Holden in: Escape From Fort Bravo, Duke in: The Searchers, Lancaster and Scofield in: The Train, Mitchum and Jurgens in: The Enemy Below, Heston in: Major Dundee and Hamill followed by Darth Vader in the Deathstars Trench in: Star Wars. I could go on almost forever.

Hi Bill, that was an excellent movie. Ill second your vote on it.

Also, another that comes to mind is my all-time most favorite James Stewart Western--which is: Winchester 73. Him and Millard (High Spade) Mitchell, chasing Stephen (Matthew McAdams *AKA* Dutch Henry Brown) McNally. Thats one non Duke Western I never tire of.

  • I've thought of another chase scene - in "The Unforgiven" with Burt Lancaster. Where John Saxon is chasing down Joseph Wiseman across the landscape. Some beautiful photography during this episode.

    Cheers - Jay:beer:

  • Another great chase scene is in the great Charlton Heston movie: The Mountain Men W/ Brien Keith. The part where he is captured by some Indians and is given a "chance" to live when they tell him to run and is given a certain amount of time but he leave the Indian village by walking slowly. After a certain amount of time, several Indians start their hunt and chase after him. Well, you know the rest of the story.

  • There was a chase scene in a couple of movies that would be considered unique. It is rafting scenes in a couple of movies John Wayne was in. The first which didn't include John Wayne was How the West Was Won. And the other was Rooster Cogburn and the Lady. The chase in the later was actually raft versus the ambush, but like I said unique.

    Cheers  Hondo
