  • This is my first post and look forward to chatting with you all. I've been a John Wayne fan for years and have quite a few items in my collection. However I was asked a question the other day that made me come here. (Why did John Wayne have a rifle shell dead center in the back on his pistol belt??) I did look at a couple old films and you must be quick but it was there. Oh well just maybe someone out there will know.

  • Gauk65,

We'd like to extend a big WELCOME to you, to the Original John Wayne Message Board!!

Regarding your question, it is a good one, and one that has been discussed before. Here are links to those threads -

As you can see, we boast a knowledgeable fan base, and if you hang out with us for a while, I think you will find us to be friendly and fun as well!

We look forward to getting to know you better in the days and weeks to come.

  • Hello and welcome to the board, Gauk65. You found the right place for a Duke fan to be. Make yourself at home.

  • Hi to everyone!

While attending the John Wayne celebration in Winterset this past weekend I met some of the "boys" from this website. The party consisted of Chester7777, Jeff Sutherland, and Kilo6 (or 8). After some friendly persuasion, I threatened them with signing up so here I am!

We had a great time at the celebration and I even had my picture taken with the 3 "gentlemen mention above. If I can figure out how to post it and it is approved, I will do so.

I have been a John Wayne fan for longer than I can remember ( I am well over 60 years old) and don't regret it one bit. I have a pretty good collection of Duke "stuff". I just need room to display it.

I guess there is a place to post my favorite movies, etc. so I will try and get that done. I look forward to some hearty discussions about the Duke and related topics.

I'm burning daylight so better get going. Thanks for now.

  • Coach,

Hey, glad to see you made it! Welcome to the Original John Wayne Message Board, just about the friendliest place on the Internet dedicated to the memory of John "Duke" Wayne!

I just got back home about an hour ago myself.

Looking forward to getting to know you better,

Chester :newyear: (and the Mrs. :angel1: says "Howdy!" too)

  • Hello Coach 3 Just got home myself. I sure enjoyed meeting you and your wife. My flights were compromised by weather so I was rerouted via Chicago. I am looking forward to my own bed, however Tenting was an adventure.

Greetings from North of the 49th

  • Coach3, welcome to the site. Glad you found Chester and the other's in Winterset. I see you are from Albert Lea......Well that is my home town. I now live in Plainview, which is NW of Rochester. Most of my family live in Albert Lea or the surrounding area. I am alittle younger then you, 42 soon to be 43, my dad got me started on Duke when I was young. We were down in Winterset for the 100th B-Day celebration a couple years ago. See you around........ :)

    Hey Kilo 6 !!!

Good to hear from you. Glad you made it back ok. I couldn't do the tenting deal. The closest I get to that is when we are on a road trip with the race car and I "camp out" in the hauler. I did that for 16 days in Feb while we were in Florida racing.

I enjoyed meeting you in Winterset and sharing stories--mostly yours! You have had some interesting experiences. That is what life is all about.

I am going to try and get the photo of us on this site, or mail a copy to you if you want. Would need your address to do that. I had a great time. I REALLY enjoyed meeting Deana Martin. She is a class act! She even sent me an autographed photo of her. Pretty cool!!!!!!!

I'll chat more later. Better get off this thing before I'm up all nite. Good to hear from you. Take care.

    Howdy XSVIPER!

Well, you certainly aren't far away from me. Do you know Tim Weaver, by chance. He is a good friend of mine. We are hooked up through Railroad interests, as well as others. I probably know some of your family. I am fairly well known around here. I don't know if that is good or bad but that is the way it is. I wish I would have went to the 100th. I'll bet that was a great time. I hope to go again next year. I sure enjoyed everything. Winterset is a pretty cool town. We even ate at the Rexall Drug Store. That was a step back in time.

Hope to chat with you again. Thanks for the welcome.

  • I don't recall a Tim Weaver but that doesn't mean anything  I haven't lived in Albert Lea since 1991. I have been there the last 3 weekends though....hehehe. Darn birthdays, confirmations and graduations!!

My dad worked for the city on the street dept up till last October and then retired, his name is Dean Wangen. I am his oldest son, Todd. My wife grew up just south of Clarks Grove and her dad is Dennis Jensen. He has a gravel buisness and does grading and hauling. That is probably enough info to get me in trouble, I am sure you will recognize 1 of those names

Howdy SXViper: This IS a small world!!! I coached your brother on the Domino's Jr.Gold Hockey Team and know your Dad well. I also know your wife's Dad well. I'm an old car guy, just like Denny. He used to own a black 57 Chevy, mine was a metallic brown. I see your Dad often. He stops in where I work--Fleet Farm Supply in Albert Lea.

What's you favorite John Wayne movie? I would guess your dad is a Duke fan as well.

    Talk to you later.
